Welcome one and all to FanForce Fredericton!
I've been a Star Wars fan for many years, and for those of you who remember the Gaiety Theater, you'll know how many years that's been. In addition to being a meeting place for existing fans and acquaintances, I hope this can be a beacon to attract new fans.
My thanks go out to those who have helped set up FanForce Fredericton, including the CR for FanForce Moncton DarthBabe, the former CR for FanForce Saint John Sar-Tamber-Lac, RSA YoungJediNiagara, and of coarse the other members of FanForce Fredericton.

Now, as you can imagine, and have probably experienced, a small chapter just starting out is vulnerable to periods of low activity due to as little as 2 or 3 members gettings busy with other activities. This is especially true in the summer months. So to help offset this, I'd like a few tips on recruiting. Is there a method unique to FanForce, or is it simply the posting of fliers and word of mouth? Comments and suggestions welcome as always.

Word of mouth is how Moncton did it. Usually word of MY mouth.

I know someone in Fredricton who was involved with the last attempt to get a Fanforce going. I'll see if I can lure her back.

Yes, it did used to say FF Moncton recruiter. I forgot it got changed when I won the game.

 

Word of mouth and visibility absolutely, plus fliers in book stores and comic shops that sell the novels, the RPG supplies or the comics or toys. Maybe an ad to a public venue meeting, posted in local community newsletters. Local cons are also a barely explored possibility.

There is no one way to get new members for all of FanForce, so try anything that comes to mind!

Although here abouts, there's a reason for the local cons one... there aren't any, other than one anime/gaming con in Sackville.

Like Daughter_of_Yubyub said, there's not much by way of conventions here in Fredericton either. Every January though there's a gaming con at UNB called "Comunicon".

A bit quiet around Freddy right now.
Some people have gotten busy with work, and of coarse there's the usual summer distractions. I was hoping some of the former Fredericton members would find their way back, but I guess I'll just have to put up posters or something similar to attract new people.

 

I lived in Fredericton from January - April on a co-op term for school.

I worked at ACOA down on Queen Street, is there, by some small chance, anyone here that works at ACOA?

I am from Saint John by the way.

 

Don't know anyone at ACOA, but I'll let you know if I hear of someone.
Any plans on returning to Fredericton?

 

I think it will be easier to get started once summer is done, especially with the university and such here. I'll be up for some things once I get completely moved to Quispamsis. That's what I've got to focus on right now. The people from our chapter were mostly from my college in Sussex. This fall would probably be the best time to get something started. I'll see what I can do.

I know the answer to "what do you do for fun" should be live eat and breath Star Wars. More on that later.
Pay per view wrestling? Sports bar maybe, otherwise I'd have to say digital cable or satelite.
