Don't worry too much about the Quantums. There are more than enough scattered around the wasteland to complete the Nuka Cola Challenge. Plus, if you have Broken Steel you can get the perk Quantum Chemist which will turn every 10 regular Nuka Colas you have into 1 Quantum. I forget which level you can get that though. 20-something.

So for kicks I've started getting rid of my ****load of excess power armor... by putting it on friendly NPC's. Now, with their perfect-condition Hellfire and Tesla Armor, Rivet City Security (and Butch and Brock and the shopkeepers) is a ****ing army. But as I have to pickpocket to give them the armor, they all now call me a thief... even though I never stole anything. :(

When the hell do you get a dog in this game? I've started a new character multiple times and haven't even heard a pooch mentioned.

Dogmeat, your loyal and almost indestructible canine companion, is found on a location called Scrapyard (yeah, a junkyard), a bit to the northeast of Vault 101 and Megaton. You'll find him taking on a few Raiders and when you approach him, a rather awkward exchange will take place, after which you'll decide whether you want him to follow you (YES YOU DO) or not.

So I spent hours wandering the Wasteland yesterday and then proceeded to do Reilly's Rangers. It is truly one of the most rewarding sidequests in terms of caps, since -- if you have considerably explored the Wasteland and unlocked locations prior to that mission -- Reilly will reward you handsomely for every location discovered. Just like that, I got almost 4,000 caps when she uploaded my map data.

Then I proceeded to find the Deathclaw Sanctuary to search for the Bobblehead and Vengeance. The first I found easily enough, but the second simply was not where it was supposed to be. I spent the better part of an hour searching for other alternate locations but to no avail. I gave up, headed out and went elsewhere. After a few random encounters, I noticed that Cross was dishing out punishment with this weird sounding laser, and then it hit me. I asked her to trade equipment and there it was: she had what seemed to be TWO Vengeances on her inventory. Faster than I could say "MINE!", I transfered it to my inventory, but the duplicate Vengeance seemed to dissapear for some reason. Frisky broad, how dare she take my kickass gatling laser?

About Little Lamplight: Boy, I can't believe the mouths on those little brats, especially that of the little bastard who calls himself Major. He definitely needs a major spanking, which I would've gladly given to him with my Deathclaw gauntlet if only Bethesda had allowed it. Of all the Wasteland denizens I've run into so far, these are by far the most annoying. The question is though, where do these kids come from? Are they children left to their fate who manage to find their way to Lamplight or are they the children of the grownups at Big Town, who are sent to Lamplight up until they're 18 and then make their way back to Big Town when they become mungos?

The other way around -- they send their adults out into the Wasteland (to Big Town) once they hit 16, though I think there's never any real explanation provided as to how they've been reproducing all these centuries. Maybe something to do with the genetic engineering facilities in Vault 87, where Fawkes comes from? You feel terrible for the ones at Big Town, though Rivet City eventually starts sending them escorted water caravans in "Broken Steel."

(And yeah -- those kids have some of the filthiest mouths you've ever seen. If you have the "Child At Heart" perk, a whole bunch of new and different dialogue-options open up.)

Actually, some of the things that can come out of the mouths of little kids IRL in my neck of the woods (and probably everywhere else, for that matter) are equally apalling. Guess I AM too old and that this world has definitely been allowed to take a one way trip to hell in a handbasket. Possibly a worse reality than any conjured up on any entertainment simulation such as the Capital Wasteland. :(

Main's story's done. I must say, its ending can be a bit anticlimactic and all too easy, since "Take It Back" mostly involves you and Lyon's Pride following Opti- I mean, "Liberty" Prime as he rains down hell and destruction on poor Enclase saps (still an awesome sight to behond though). Then the end...well, we know it goes. I decided to first shoot the Colonel, but then reloaded to talk him out of the fight. NOt too satisfying I'm afraid.

Now am deep into the Anchorage sim. I simply LOOOOVE the Gauss rifle. How's it possible that beauty couldn't be around earlier in the game?1

You can do the Anchorage sim as soon as you leave the Vault.

Yup, done it myself. I don't remember because I played it early for the stealth suit. But I've heard that if you do that you get the Power Armor training perk upon completion. Allows you to use the Winterized T-51b armor very early as a result. That and the Chinese Stealth suit will give you the two best armors in the game right off the bat.

Well, I decided to tackle Anchorage AFTER finishing the main story and with my level 25 character. Thing is, I DL'd the expansion just recently and hadn't taken it on. Had I known all the goodies I'd get right then and there, I would've done that mission much, MUCH earlier. So the winterized power armor and the Chinese Stealth suit are better than your average Tesla armor? And can you activate the stealth suit anytime you want?

Oh yes, the Tesla Cannon. One word = Perfection. Right up there with the Alien Blaster.

Now I'm wading through the Pitt. I'm seeing many unsavory characters with proper names and such and I'm sure you'd have interesting (or less so) conversations with any of them...but I'm not giving them a chance. I'm not making friends with any of 'em and am capping each scumbag raider/slaver I see. I'm not sure if that's the right way to go there, but I don't feel inclined to rub shoulders with those fraks. Of course, I figure there's a shoe that's pending to drop (and possibly an unsavory decision to be made) right before I head out of the Pitt.

I've just got all the expansions, and started my first game on my XBL profile.

First thing I did? Saved Megaton from the bomb, did chapter 1 of the Wasteland Survival Guide, and wasted Zimmer after restoring Harkness' memories.

Now I've been abducted by Mothership Zeta :)

Gone through Vault 87 and Raven Rock - roasting mutants and then shotgunning Enclave soldiers - then taking their armour to repair my own. I do like how they have this energy immunity which a shotgun shreds.

And then there's Fawkes....Ye gods, this guy does live up to his rep: Have a raider attack us so I fire my minigun from one direction, Fawkes' gatling starts up and this poor bastard gets shredded six ways to Sunday! I'm now not killing anything because Fawkes does it first!

Yeah, Fawkes is awesome. I actually had to dismiss him at one point though because I was trying to get to Level 30, but he would kill enemies so quickly I couldn't get any experience.

And I now have 1550/1550G for Fallout 3.

Damn...so Mothership Zeta killed my 360. Just so on the day I was gonna start enjoying Arkham Asylum.

Fallout 3 caused my refurbished crappy 360 to have a nuclear meltdown. I dunno whether to laugh or cry at that little bit of irony. [face_plain]

    Funny, real-life Fallout 3-related story:

Recently, I got back into touch with a girl whom I dated for a while in college (she was the one right before I met my wife). She's married and currently living in Fairfax, VA, in the rather tony Penderbrook area, which -- if you check out the Google Maps map of the region -- happens to be just a mile or so SW of where Megaton will eventually be found.

Though I didn't quite have the heart to tell her that, in the future, her town will be taken over by rapist slaver-cannibals.

LOL. I found myself oogling over the DC area the other day on Google Earth. Naturally, I was trying to make out future locations throughout the Capital Wasteland. Damn, the weird crap this game makes you think of.

Heads up for you folks who bought all five Fallout 3 DLC episodes over Xbox Live, Bethesda is offering a free Premium Theme to you. Just check the e-mail associated with your XBL account and there should/will be a message in your Inbox with the download code. Just got one myself. :)

Well, that's awfully nice of them, though the only DLC I'm missing is Point Lookout. I'm thinking of getting it someday to get any of my Lone Wanderers to Lvl 30. Is it worth the 800 MS points?

PL is the best of all the DLC. It's definitely worth it. It introduces a large map about 1/4 the size of the Capital Wasteland with tons of areas to explore.

    I'm Fallout 3's Biggest Fan?!! [face_dancing]

(Seriously, yeah -- this was a cool thing for Bethesda to do; it just replaced my recent ODST Premium Theme. Though wouldn't it be awesome if they turned this into a LIVE theme?)
