the start of the NHL season has officially been cancelled. The lockout has unfortunately begun effective at midnight last night. Most likely the entire season will be wiped out. Sucks no?

    You forgot about Mystery Alaska.

You won't miss much. Islander hockey isn't too much of a spectacle.

You should be HAPPY there's no season for the Islanders. They get to keep Trent Hunter for another year.

From the whole conference today it looks as if the union wants to continue to make as much money as possible for the players without worrying about the consequences that the teams have to face in regards to going bankrupt

it also looks like the NHL is offering the union a fair deal, i mean an average salary of 1.3 mill. isnt bad at all

however i doubt either side will budge on this issue and i think if the NHL ever does agree to play, this season will be long over and fan support will be severely diminished, even in the main markets

    or worst ant...

    higher ticket/parking /concession prices

a lockout will make the fan go hungry - then they will pay anything to see their teams

Gary and I was talking a couple days ago about maybe hitting up a minor-league game. There's plenty around the area to check out so it wouldn't be hard.

    Trenton Titans(ECHL)
    Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies(ECHL)
    Philadelphia Phantoms(AHL)
    Hershey Bears(AHL)
    Hartford Wolfpack(AHL)
    Bridgeport Sound Tigers(AHL)

    Thoughts?

I'd go see AC or Trenton. When I am away, I am gonna see as much minor league hockey as possible.

I hope my football team at least has a good year. Else it will be a long, cold winter.

I don't have that luxury. Dammit!

I'd go see any one of those teams. I honestly do not care.

Wolfpack is the closest thing to the Rangers, so...I'd be game.

Yeah but given the Rangers' current status in the NHL, that could prove to be disastrous!

I am absolutely bored now. I'm attempting to get back into basketball, but I don't think that's going to happen. I missed the Knicks season opener on purpose.

Sad, man. Me being 32, this one makes you think.

If this was in the U.S., do you think it would have ended the same way?

Whoa....Zholtok died??? Holy crap! I remember hearing of him having strange health problems about mid-way through last years season. He lost a lot of games because of it too. Man that's really a shame. I can still remember seeing him come up with the Senators. He was one of their big boys back in the late 90's. 31 too. Damn that's young.
