Discuss. I feel like they could've had more scenes and the battle of Kashyyyk could've been shown more. Were any Chewbacca fans let down?
Yeah, it felt like the Kashyyyk scenes were almost too brief. Before I saw the movie for the first time, I remember that after hearing there would be a Kashyyyk battle in the movie I really wanted to see Wookiees rip the arms off battle droids, but there was none of that so I was sort of disappointed. Still, I understand that if they had more of the battle, it would have steered away too much from the main plot.
I thought that battle got plenty of time relative to the "other battles" we barely got glimpses of. It was fine as it was. IMHO.
Chewbacca is just a worthless wookie who won't shut up. His appearance was pointless in the Prequels and he was just a minor asset in the Originals.
Yeah, but all he does is stand around or follow the other people. He doesn't contribute much to the actual story events (which is fine by me, mind you).
You mean other than introducing Obi-Wan and Luke to Han? Or finding and repairing Threepio on Cloud City in ESB? Or the fact that he pretty much turned the tide on Endor's surface battle, thus saving the Rebellion?
Yep. The only thing holding him back is lack of subtitles, even though we can usually figure out the basic idea of what he's talking about.
I mean including those events. The reason is that those are trivial events in the sense that a simple rewrite could have altered those details without altering the story in any significant way.
I thought they were fanservice-y. Not underused. I'm not against them being there, but I don't think they were obligated to appear, either. So are Ewoks!
Too much of ROTS was fanservice. From the Death Star scene to the "oh, I'll call them Luke and Leia!" scene to the Tatooine and Alderaan scenes, and the "Qui-Gon is a Force ghost and we can talk to him" scene...just ugh. None of those were necessary at all...we didn't need to "connect" ROTS to ANH. And it just goes to show that ROTS did not have a compelling plot of its own.
I think it would have been kind of silly if Chewbacca was heavily featured in ROTS. He is an OT character, and is really only useful to connect the two sagas, and show us how the war effected one of the characters that we know and love from the OT. Not every major character needs to be featured in both trilogies.
Not really, because all the stuff you mentioned was tacked on at the end. What it was tacked on to essentially stands on its own as much as it would be expected to.
I wasn't let down. He just needed a quick cameo. He served his purpose. There was way too much going on in the film for him to have had any more screen time.
I would have loved to see a much longer battle with the Wookies. It's what we all wanted as kids when we saw the Ewoks in Jedi and heard it was supposed to be Wookies originally.
