I almost wish I could change my username... silly mispelling...
There will most likely be a gap in between, but as of now we don't know how long that is going to be. It could be a couple of days or even a week or two
Grimby in 11 words or less summarize your entire OP.
Read the OP.
There, I did it in 3.
This is exciting. I remember testing the boards back when there was a talk of the move in 05 or 06.
So the thread's topic is about reading the OP? I call shenanigans! Also you are terrible at summarizing.
I read it,
lack of sleep makes you forget things
IGN pulling plug. Moving to vBulletin. Probable downtime. Cross your fingers.
That is exactly what witnesses to the Hindenburg disaster said...
As long as it goes better than the UBB - SnowBoard move, I'm sure things will be fine.
Although, it is amusing to read some of the old threads that collided in cyberspace.
So is it the same web address or different I don't get it, Does it mean that we all have to change our icons and our details and stuff. I don't get it
So, moving from crappy IGN to awesome vBulletin?
All I have to say is, it's about time!
indeed. vBulletin >>>>>>>>>>>> IGN
this is good news.
This would be like if you had your own website (let's call it YodasBadGirl.com), and had it hosted on Geocities. One day, Geocities comes along and says, "Hey, YodasBadGirl1, didn't you hear? We closed our service down six months ago!" You then had to find another host to move your site to, so you chose Google Sites. You moved your site there (while still keeping the URL as YodasBadGirl.com), but because the web interface wasn't the same, your web pages looked a little different even though your content was exactly the same.
After the boards move, the URL will still be boards.theforce.net. You should still be able to log into your same account(s), view the same boards, and read the same posts. But the overall look of the site might be slightly different.
Still don't believe you're moving. Sorry.
We'll just leave you behind, then.
April Fools is over dp. This isn't a joke.
Forgive me if I seem a bit ignorant, but I was looking at [link=http://www.vbulletin.com/index.php?do=features]vBulletin features[/link], and I wondered are we going to have the cheaper package or the more expensive package?
edit: I just saw this under the "Posts" part of Features- User Reputation.
oooh and what about Post Rating?
I guess I'll save all the threads I have in my bookmarks, plus some others. Just in case.
And damn you guys for announcing on April Fool's.
O.k thanks for clearing that up for me so what's everyone stressing about, is it because it maybe off for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Is that it? or is it because we lose whatever work we have done?
God help us all if this is turned on.
Also, will the search function work?
The only thing the "more expensive package" offers over the regular forum is a full content management system with blogs and site articles. We don't need any of that stuff, so no, we will just be using the regular forum software.
There are a lot of features vBulletin offers that IGN doesn't, like user reputation, thread ratings, user-uploaded icons, etc. We're not planning on turning any of those on right away. Our primary goal is to just complete the transition and get the boards to look and feel about the same as before. After that, we'll start looking into turning on new features.
Edit: Search will work. We'll either use the internal search feature, or integrate Google searching depending on server load.
I think people are stressing because of all the work involved in this move. The Mods and Admins have all the work to do and then they have to adjust to the new system, decide what features are appropriate for this site that are not available here now, worry about things going badly, and then put up with the aftermath of people learning the new system. And we, the little people (LOL) have to learn the new system. It will be like Welcome New Users all over again, except for everyone.
Comms is gonna be fun again.
