Were the Death Star builders slacking off?

So, why does it take the Empire 20 years to build the DS, but takes a year and a half to almost complete DS 2?

 

For the DS2 they hired better independent contractors.

The way the EU explains it, they build a prototype first in the heart of the Maw. Once they knew the superlaser worked, they built the real thing. There were several years between A New Hope and Return of the Jedi, plenty of time to build a second.

Editlus, they didn't contract Geonosians to build the second Death Star.

 

You are implying that the Deathstar is being construced in E3. We don't know if there is going to be a Deathstar featured in the E3. Well I don't anyway, I'm spoiler free . Anyway, I don't think the Deathstar took 20 years to complete, because as you stated above, it would be stupid to take 20 years for the first and then about 2-3 years for the second.

 

The first Death Star took about five years to be completed.

 

Yeah, I think that the workers where slacking off, but Vader went and executed the supervisors of the two worst construction groups...after that everything went shipshape.

 

Too many smoke breaks....guys taking off early to go to Corellia for the weekend...hungover stormtroopers calling in sick on monday mornings...I could go on.
