I like this thread. It's interesting that Star Wars was such an original endeavour that the sound effects themselves have taken on a life of their own. It's hard to judge because I'm used to hearing them (lightsabers, blasters, etch). I'm between the Hoth probe droid, the Imperial alert, or Jango Fett's blaster sound.

Oh and the walking of the AT-AT's. Sounds in Star Wars are one of it's best qualities. I also vote for the seismic charge

    Tie-Fighters
    Tusken Raiders

    Darth Vader's breathing
The duel between Obi-Wan and Maul in TPM right before they stop exchanging blows, back off and look at each other. The last 4 strikes before they back off.
Luke and Vader struggling against one another with their lightsabers on the 2nd Death Star

Especially in contrast to those boring, dull, emotionless, over-choreographed lightsaber duels of you-know-what episodes that I'm am talking about, guys!!!!

The Fart sounds from R2 don't tell me it's a whistle, beep, chirp, warble etc. It's fart sounds that he does.

I really like the sounds of the speeder bikes, especially when they pass by and emits that deep echoing noise.

They'll be talking about that one when we're all dead and gone. I can foresee a strange future in which the Earth itself has long burned up, and human beings, whatever form they take by then, are spread out thin and wide in the greater universe, and one colony of these nu-humans one day recover a lonely artifact. "Sir, a sound!" (probably won't be speaking English by then, but go with it). "What is it?" *they play the sound* BWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAMMMM! "Now, THAT's a sound!" Should have sent that thing out with another Voyager probe. Ben Burtt could be our ambassador for first contact with alien races.

I remember the seismic charges scene from my original AOTC viewing at the cinema. I recall gritting my teeth, a bit, as it all happened, because it really did seem MEGA LOUD. I don't think I've ever heard speakers put out a stranger, more dazzling block of sound in all my days. It was one of those moments that made AOTC pretty damn epic on the big screen. Some of my memories of AOTC on that screening are clouded over -- appropriately enough, like the film and its smog/fog-ridden start -- but I can't fail to remember the seismic charges. One minute, you're having a nice quiet time of it, watching a little chat on a desert planet with a flying blue guy, and the next... you're practically being blown out your seat in the inky black depths of space.

    * * *

    Other sounds:

    - The engine sounds (lots of great engine noises in the PT)
    - The forest/nature sounds (especially beautiful hearing all those chirping birds and insects on Naboo in AOTC)
    - Lightsabers (duh)
    - Podracers (duh)
    - The communication screen flashing to life, as used by Nute and Rune when talking to Amidala at the start of TPM
    - The blaster sounds: hand-held and vehicle/ship-based
    - The sound of droidekas rolling along the ground (heavy metal grating being slid along a floor type of a sound)
    - The afterburner sound when Anakin gets in front of Sebulba during the podrace (used again in ROTS for Anakin dodging the missiles)
    - The shrill sound of those tank blasts hitting the Gungan energy shield during the Battle of Naboo
    - The sound of the gunships moving off after the Jedi are rescued on Geonosis
    - The sound of the Radiant VII blowing up at the beginning of TPM
    - General Grievous: accent, voice, clunking chicken leg movements, everything
    - The laser gate sounds from TPM
    - Artoo's "Uh oh!" sound from ROTS
    - Tusken Raiders
    - Jawas
    - The carbon freezing chamber sounds
    - Creature burps
    - Creepy/weird sounds heard during Anakin's approach to Palpatine's box at the opera house in ROTS
    - The door sounds for Jango's apartment on Kamino
    - Zam's speeder
    - Artoo's subtle whirring noises/muttering to himself when scanning Padme's bedroom before an attempt on her life
    - The weird ambient humming when Obi-Wan enters that spiral structure on Geonosis; and the chugging sounds of industry (droid factory) that follow
    - Jango using his flame thrower on Mace
    - The groggy/swooshing sounds heard in the air when the Jedi cease fighting in the arena
    - Artoo straining to keep hold of Yoda's lamp as they bicker on Dagobah; plus Yoda whacking Artoo with his stick
    - Speeder bikes
    - Grievous' wheel bike; and the sound of it slamming onto the outer structure of that TF ship burrowed into the side of the sinkhole on Utapau as Obi-Wan gives chase
    - The exploding lava on Mustafar
    - The collector arm taking damage and the sound of wires snapping when pelted with lava
    - The activation sound of the pod moving off when Palpatine presses the button to begin addressing the Senate in TPM
    - The crowd sounds and weird instrument noises for the execution arena on Geonosis
    - Ewoks chatting/hollering/praying to Threepio
    - Threepio's simulated sound effects during his initiation story with the Ewoks
    - Not a sound, but I have to include this one: the burst of Luke's Theme/The Force Theme when Luke elevates Threepio in the chair
    - AT-ATs and AT-STs
    - The sound of Luke's snowspeeder being crushed by the foot of an AT-AT
    - The Gungan sub/bongo calm interior hum; and the sound of it moving through the water with its propeller tail
    - The sando aqua monster's super-bassy vocal sounds
    - Jar Jar Binks; yes, Jar Jar!
    - The sound of Yoda using the Force and hurling the red guards against the wall before confronting Sidious in ROTS
    - The crude bleeping noises used for the Millennium Falcon's targeting computers when Han and Luke are blasting TIEs
    - The sound of various X-Wings being targeted and then blowing up during the Battle of Yavin
    - Vader's breathing (duh); especially his erratic breathing when going crazy on Luke on the gantry on Bespin
    - The sound of that security scanner in the cantina
    - Jabba
    - The sonic boom when Zam is shot with the toxic dart

That'll do. I could just have said "all", couldn't I?

Heh. I was actually still editing my list!!

I didn't add that one, but I did include the flame thrower part (before I read your post).

There are lots of cool sounds in the entire last act of AOTC. It was finally time for the craziness to be unleashed!

Such an incredible addition to the saga, that whole last stretch.

    Sebulba's pod, hands down!
I also enjoy the irate-humpback-whale-in-the-cargo-hold/Imperial siren sound.

Totally!!! That sound during the Asteroid Chase in TESB is when I start pumping my fist. To me, that whole sequence is just a complete audio/visual masterpiece.
