Lit What are the biggest remaining EU mysteries?

Look at all these hungry fans, including myself, whose answers most likely will never come to fruition. It's a sad sad thought.

 

Not necessarily. I am nostalgic for the 90s when the EU was deliberately mandated to be ambiguous about the time period before the OT. Star Wars was a lot more interesting when I was a kid and there wasn't Wookieepedia and there were schoolyard rumors and theories that went around about who Boba Fett really was and how Vader turned to the dark side.

Obviously it's unreasonable to expect stuff like Vader's fall to remain unexplained, but I think the saturation of Star Wars products has really reduced any sense of mystique or nuance to the storytelling. And that's from the top down, whether it be Lucas' additions to the films or various EU releases, whether they be blog posts, essential guides, bad novels, junior and YA books, etc.

 

This is hardly unique to Star Wars, mostly it is a consequence of how the internet informs everyday life now. While Wookieepedia is a particularly expansive fandom encyclopedia, almost every moderately popular fictional universe has something similar these days.

There's still plenty of mystique and mystery in Star Wars, it just takes on a different form. There are still huge gaps storytelling, with many characters, places, and items of considerable significance being known only from marginal references.

If anything, proliferation only adds to potential mystery and possibility. Take TOR, it's absolutely filled with named characters with titles and projects who have nothing further - yet these are all beings living in the Star Wars universe, part of an immense canvas that even a gigantic game can only glimpse a small part of.
