I haven't played Rome 2 as much as I probably should have this past week (why does work always pick up when right when there's a new release?), but first impressions haven't been spectacular for me, either. The game feels like it's been really simplified, especially with the logistics, and is suffering for it. Reducing sieges to glorified king of the hill matches has been the most glaring mistake so far. Also, the UI is terrible.

I am a long time fan of the franchise and have played pretty much every title except the first Shogun and Medieval. The game is far too simplified. I wouldn't even know where to begin listing things that are wrong.
Probably the biggest problem is with battles and pretty much everything in them. They last like 5 minutes, no matter who you're fighting against. Random routs. Units cheer instead of chasing down the fleeing enemy. Formations break down as soon as they make the third step in any direction. I mean damn, a phalanx that manages to lose formation on a flat plain in like 30 seconds? Those damn flag things, pointless. They kill all options for tactics. Instead of trying to do something against a larger force, you just gotta defend your damn flagpole until he gets his 5000 guys together and wipes the floor with your 500. Speaking of which, no walls for smaller settlements? Way to go. UI is terrible, AI is terrible and it lags like mad for no reason at all. No family tree. One year per turn - what, it takes almost five years to sail a ship around Italy? Magic boat transports that can wreck a fleet of warships. The wait time on AI moves is ridiculous, you just move your two or three guys in 50 seconds, click "End Turn" then wait two minutes for AI to finish.
    The list goes on.

Eh, sorry. Ending rant. I usually don't get worked up so much about stuff, hah.
It's just that I've been looking forward to this for years and when it finally hits, we get this mess of a pre-Beta game...

Playing Asssasin's Creed 3. I think this is the strangest game out of an arguably strange franchise. Well, at least until I play Black Flag. I've spent more than four hours so far playing as Connor's turncoat daddy and I'm wondering at what point am I going to start playing as the game's "protagonist", though I get the feeling I already am. This "twist" definitely reminds me of Halo 2 and the Arbiter, or MGS2 and Raiden: unexpected and not necessarily welcome. The subtle changes in the combat and "puppeteering" mechanics are also a bit jarring and will take some getting used to.

Oh yeah, that lockpicking minigame? SUUUUUUUCKS!

In regards to the villains though, I'll admit that AC3 has provided the most interesting bunch of Templar jerks in the series so far. Haytham Kenway is brilliant. He's a jerkhole, no doubt, but he's a witty jerkhole, which is more than I can say for his son (yeah, Connor is certainly not likeable like Ezio or even Altair). I can't help but like him and it's too damn bad the Assassins lost him. As for Charles Lee, damn, he exceeds at being a despicable scumbag. I can't wait to go stabby-stabby on his sociopathic face.

Playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown for the first time, as I've been told that I'll get more enjoyment out of the game if I play some vanilla before the expansion comes out.

Just got out of the tutorial section but it seems pretty damn enjoyable thus far. Has a lovely B-movie vibe, the base management stuff isn't overcomplicated, and the actual turn-based action is just really fun. Can't wait to get destroyed because it's my first go through.

Total War Rome II and SWTOR.

My impressions with TWR2 are pretty much the same as the other people in this thread. Battles are too fast, capture points feel like cheating, and the UI takes a LOT of getting used to. Still, I'll play it (especially custom battles on the Lemonium map) and (with any luck) they'll fix some of the more gratuitous bugs and patch in some of the things they left out, like the family tree.

SWTOR doesn't deserve all the hate, IMHO. I mean, it's a Star Wars MMO. What's not to like?

Saints Row 2. I really want to play the first Saints Row now, but where am I going to find that? Still, Saints Row 2 is fun, and I have Saints Row 3 ready and waiting.

Harvest Moon - A New Beginning. Kind of a let down after Rune Factory 3, and the "tutorial" is about three in-game weeks longer than it needs to be. Once the horrific pacing of the first spring is over, though, it's really solid.

Also Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. Hey kids, like collecting monsters and creating new combinations of characters to optimize combat strategies? Too bad, because this is the only SMT game without that feature! It's kind of a slog as a result, I don't know if I'll finish it.

ac4 looks great but me id love one set in the times of egypt because if you go into the temple or w/e in ac2 you see some history on statues. one stated a female assasin used a snake or cobra to kill cleopatra

Currently 48% through 'Arkham City', and the main story is done but have a lot more crime and side-stories to clean up before I can hang up the cowl before 'Arkham Origins' I think...!

Love these Batman games, really atmospheric and great fun.

Playing The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition for the first time. Haven't gotten very far into it (2 missions), but I love the gameplay so far. I also love that you start out as Darth Vader blowing up everything around you into smithereens.
