well i'm far from an expert but aside from the racer 5 here are a few that i keep coming back to: dogfish head 90 minute (definitely worth splurging on occasionally, the 60 minute is also great and not quite so expensive) russian river hopfather sierra nevada torpedo lagunitas ipa terrapin hopsecutioner (discovered at c6!) ninkasi total domination fish tale ipa deschutes and bridgeport also make decent ipa's. i've heard really good things about that smuttynose, but i've unfortunately never seen it around here. a lot of these are northwest breweries so you might run into the same problem.
Availability is hit or miss with the west coast brews here, but I can get most SN and Lagunitas stuff on the regular. DFH 90 is definitely worth it for the quality and the ABV. Torpedo is a nice price/abv ratio as well. I definitely haven't seen the ninkasi, fishtale or the others in my vicinity, though I always wanted to try the deschutes abyss stout. You'd definitely like the Smutty -- a great quality, sessionable brew. Right now I'm enjoying an Aecht Schlenkera Rauchbier Marzen -- a little gem of a smoked Bavarian ale.
I'm sipping on the Bear Republic XP Pale Ale now. I think I prefer the Racer 5, it's a little fruitier. But this is still great. The local shop also had Ass Kisser IPA, you lot tried that?
All good and would add Stone Ruination, Squatter's Hop Rising, and my current fav, Prohibition's Double Daddy. And tonight I am drinking 3 Buck Chuck cause I spend too much money on outrageous IPAs.
Here's the importer that supplies my store's website. http://www.cultbeerstore.co.nz/ Any recommendations in the Pale Ale line?
Other than don't drink them? Not a fan of the pales. In a year I went from not liking beer at all to really enjoying the darkest of stouts.
Right now, coffee. I have a few Sierra Nevada Celebration Ales kicking around for latter. Last night I had Boston Beerworks Back Bay IPA. Solid, but nothing great. I'll echo the Smuttynose making good IPAs- their Big A Double IPA is really really good, but tough to find, but there regular one is good too. Flying Dog's IPA and Double IPA (Snake Dog and Raging Bitch, respectively) are also delightful. edit: Green Flash West Coast IPA is another one of my standards.
weird jp, that yakima monster pale ale iks brewed about 30 miles from where i live yet i've never even heard of it. you should try it just because.
