Rereading Toby Venables' Hunter of Sherwood Knight of Shadows as I just ordered the sequel this morning (Red Hand.) I love the idea of Robin Hood utterly losing it during the Crusades and Toby made Guy a very interesting lead.

The Pale Horsemen by Bernard Cornwell. I've always had a hard time reading this for some odd reason despite the fact it's subject that is a interest to me. I'll attempt to read this again, I generally want to get into more historical fiction. Specifically ancient/medieval fiction as I find those periods of history most interesting.

You should check out Maurice Druon's Accursed Kings then. It's set against the back drop of France at the start of the Hundred Years War. It was one of GRRM's inspirations of Game of Thrones.

Of Bone And Thunder was terrible.

    Moving on.

I've been looking forward to this. I have put it off as it is the start of a series but I only own this first part.

Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian. Haven't gone back to read this again since before the movie came out, and it more than holds up to repeat readings. I appreciate the artistry and authenticity now more than ever. On to Post Captain; there's not a moment to lose!

Thought it was great. Quick read. Very simple cartoon art style. Does a great job of getting what is necessary about his life on the page. Funny and sad.

Post Captain, by Patrick O'Brian. Ah, the origin of the oft-repeated explanation for the shortness of the dog-watches! Also, this gem from Maturin that I had forgotten: "I have a horror of the least appearance of eccentricity." [face_laugh]

Alan Turing: The Enigma, The biography portion is fascinating and in depth. You really get a sense of the man without too much editorial opinions. It is written by Andrew Hodges who is himself an accomplished mathematician. Turing ' s theories and influences are explored in depth. My brain definitely had strengthen on the other hemisphere. ..

It's a challenging but fascinating read

If you're a math freak and a Simpsons fan, keep a lookout for The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets by Simon Singh. I started it today. I don't have a math degree so some of it is going over my head but it's an interesting read so far.

It's a good book. It skews a bit more toward being like a self-help book than a by-the-numbers biography, but if you're interested in manned spaceflight, then its worth reading, as Chris Hadfield's story is pretty remarkable. I actually met him a couple of years ago and got my copy signed.
