I'm just now reading Destiny's Way and Ackbar mentioned how much he missed Mon Mothma since her passing. Anyone know if this occurred in a book, or around what timeframe it happened?

She died in her sleep shortly before the Vong invasion began.

I don't think that it was in a book, but shortly before the Yuuzahn Vong Invation

Nope im afraid Mon Mothma got quite a low key passing from the Star Wars galaxy. She died peacefully in her sleep shortly before the whole Yuuzhan Vong invasion began in Vector Prime. Shame that such an integral character in the building of the New Republic is only granted a passing line regarding her death in a book.

Thus one of the three founders of the Rebellion and the key figure passes from the EU in 2 short sentences...

What did you expect? A lightsabre fight? :)

Or better, a story about it based around "The Graduate"! Dustin Hoffman's part could be Zekk's, and she could be Mrs Robinson!

"Mrs Mothma are you trying to seduce me?" :D

Mothma deserved to go out peacefully, at home with her family. After all she'd done for the galaxy, I think she earned.

Really, it seemed a lot less cliched to me to have the former predicent die in her sleep than to go out in a blaze of glory. Most national leaders die a few years after they leave office, a few die while in office, but very, very few die in battle, in or out of power. Even coup d'etats usually result in exile, not death.

Very true, JoruusCbaoth. Though that wouldn't prevent the possibility of her death appearing in a book.

I don't think it'd be a very good scene, dull.

I suppose it'd be nice to have seen a memorial service or someone thinking of her though.

I prefer it done quietly; less cliched that way. But a memorial would've been nice, particularly someone like Leia or Luke mourning (we know Luke was open with her in TCT).

Well, at least she (Mon Mothma) didn't live to see the NR fall apart like that in SbS.

    Even coup d'etats

i'm sorry, i hate to pick nits like this, but themost commonly accepted plural for that, currently, is coups d'etat.

please beat me with sticks now.

No insult taken, I don't claim to speak French. That one I'll just file away along with the thousands of other tidbits of minutiae I somehow remember.

I'm sure someone will make a short story about a small funeral service between Luke, Leia, Borsk, and the rest of the New Republic.
