what did luke know about Ob?

in a new hope luke didnt seem suprised when OB knew his name...and he did know something about him he knew ob lived past the dune sea and knew him as Ben Kenobi........What i want to know is how did he know aout him?I know Lars never told him anything and no one else could have because he was in hiding and people knowing of his where abouts would defeat the purpose of hiding...so where did he get his little known info on BEN?

 

I'm pretty sure that Obi-Wan had saved him from danger before. Although i'm not entirely sure, I think somewhere in the E.U. Obi-Wan saved Luke from a Krayt Dragon. Bib should be able to clarify that if i'm right.

 

I thought I read somewhere, maybe the novel, that Luke knows Ben because Ben shows up at the farm from time to time to sort of check up on Luke.

 

I think that in the EU Obi-Wan saved Luke after a crash in his Skyhopper.

During the search for R2 in the SW radio drama, Luke tells C-3PO that Obi-Wan saved him and his friend, Windy, one time. They rode a dewback out into the Jundland Wastes. Something spooked the dewback it charged off, throwing the two of them to the ground. It was getting dark and they still hadn't found their way out, then Obi-Wan showed up and walked them back to the farm. Uncle Owen ran Obi-Wan off the farm and told him to never come back. Luke said something along the lines of, "He looked at me kind of funny, like he wanted to tell me something, but then he left."

 

Plus, there were probably lots of rumors/stories about a "crazy old man" that lived out in the desert.

 

Obi-wan also tried to give Anakin's saber to luke the time that the skyhopper crashed. but I don't think Luke knew much about him at the time of ANH,execpt that he was once a Jedi.but I think according to the EU,between ESB,and ROTJ he goes back to Obi-wan's hut and reads his journal so he can find out how to build his new saber.

 

He probably knew him well enough to say hello to and all that-they WERE neighbors.

Obi-Wan was probably the old guy that all the kids gossiped about. (oooh, he's scary! He's a witch!)

Yep, Spacehunter24 is right it was in the Original Radio Drama of ANH when Ben escorted Luke and his friend back to the farm.

I dont think Luke knew that Ben was a Jedi until ANH when he went back to Ben's home after the Sandpeople attack.

 

yeah, why else would Ben tell him "I was once a Jedi Knight"?
