ST What did you think would surely be in TFA, but wasn't?

I guess I expected more R2 and C3PO. No idea why as they weren't in the trailers or tv spots much but I guess I'm too used to having them around in a Star Wars film.

 

Exactly. I can't believe people actually think originality would make for a great movie. All the great movies ever made were basically stories that were already told, with some slight variations. Duh. [/sarcasm]

From the pre-release stuff (photo shoots, toys, etc) I was expecting more Phasma. After hearing about how she came about, I'm okay with how it worked out, I just thought she'd be more prominent. I'm hoping to see more of her later.

 

More Luke and Indepth story development

 

I was almost completely spoiler free, apart from these pics and gif

Before seeing it, I was sure there would be way more in the way of lightsaber duels. X-wing versus Tie Fighters in space, loads more aliens, especially a couple of giant monster type ones. The Kylo Ren image was on a billboard near where I live. I was sure he was going to be something like Darth Maul, and he would answer to no one, so his humanity was a real surprise to me.

And I was sure Leia, Han & Luke would share many scenes together, and I would have bet money that they would all survive. I thought there would be family scenes with them and their kids, and it would almost be a time of peace in the galaxy. Their kids eager to go off on adventures. So it was a shock to see the only confirmed offspring to be the main baddie.

Also even tough Finn seemed like a main character from the images, I was positive he would die. In fact I was certain he did on Jakku when the Tie fighter shoots close to him and he is knocked out for a short time. And when the actual first few scenes started and Poe was introduced, I figured the movie would be about him. But soon the story switched to Rey, I was captivated, it felt new and yet familiar enough that it was star wars. I knew I'd enjoy the movie, but I ended up loving it after my first viewing of it, I didn't see that coming.

I thought we would discover Rey's backstory and they would wait until Episode 8 to reveal Kylo's.

 

Luke saying something... Speaking of which - When you look at the cast read picture EVERY actor has a script except Luke! How did we miss that??

I thought there would be more about The Force... Awakening.

 

I would have liked to have seen more Phasma.... not that I am a huge Phasma fan, but there did seem to be a lot of official hoopla about her. I don't have an issue with a woman being a stormtrooper or officer, but her actions are indistinguishable from anything a male would have done...

... except for the bewb armor...

[EDIT] I wonder if conditioned troopers can become officers? The question just popped in my head. I'm wondering if she's a natural bad-ass, or just conditioned to be one.

... and you're absolutely right. She can just be a character regardless of gender.

But male or female, the Phasma character did nothing really distinguishable from the other stormtroopers. Talking to Finn and turning off the shield at gunpoint could have been done by any nameless FO officer. It just seemed like wasted material for a character who visually stood out from the rest (referring to the shiny armor, not the boobs.) It was like introducing a Ferrari in the movie, and then driving it at the speed limit with all the other cars.

Leia at least shooting a blaster.
Phasma to be a real bad ass.
A Big 3 Reunion.

 

More scenes with Phasma, especially during on-the-ground action

Luke speaking at least one sentence at the ending

The identity of Rey's actual parents

R2-D2 becoming active a bit earlier in the film

A new star-fighter... Not that I was mad about it I definitely thought a star-fighter than the X-wings was going to show.

Yeah... really....I think this is the biggest problem for this movie.

 

I can't believe people say that the story-line was bad in the PT?
The story-line was actually better than the OT by miles.
The story-line was not the problem the execution of it was.

About Luke, be sincere, i waited that he would do nothing absolutely in the movie, in fact he didn't appear in the marketing of the movie.
