I'll put it the same way I put it over there: There's nothing in there that I dislike.

    - Use the Force, Luke.
    - It's not the Jedi way!

    Everything...
The music, the characters, the space battles, the way humor was integrated into the films, Admiral Ackbar, Leia's gold bikini, the wampa, Grand Moff Tarkin, mynocks, the rancor, Luke and Vader's Cloud City and Death Star 2 duels, the sail barge battle, Han Solo's hoth outfit, the trash compactor scene, the bounty hunters, Han frying poor Greedo, Snowtroopers, Han and Leia's trip in Empire on the Falcon, that scene where the Stromtrooper bumps his head....

The Stormtroopers because nothing will match their awesome armor.

The Star Destroyers for their awsome deisgn and size.

The galaxy has nothing to do with our galaxy, so the physics don't have to match those in science that we are taught.

The Empire is evil and huge so it's like a Galactic Third Riech.

Imperial war machines like the Death Star, AT-ATs, AT-STs, Tie Fighters, Tie Bombers, Tie Interceptors, etc.

    And everything else!

I LOVE the dark and brooding feel of The Empire Strikes Back and action backed, exciting fun-fest that is Return of the Jedi!

They really make up for the boringness of A New Hope (it has some redeeming parts but by and large...*yawn*)

While a thread title like "What do you LIKE about the prequels?" is vaguely condescending, a "What do you LIKE about the originals?" thread is just ridiculous. The answer to both questions for me is pretty much everything. I'll list just a few things here:

-The best practical special effects of all time.
-The iconic story, scenarios and characters.
-Swifter narrative executions than the prequels.
    -...yeah, pretty much everything.

    The Characters

Beautifully written and well developed for a fun, adventure serial. We really feel we know Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, etc. We root for them while watching.

    The Story

No boring politics or lopsided logic here. Just a good old fashioned adventure story of good vs. evil and the choices we make in a screwed up world.

    The Effects

Most of the effects still hold up today and were nothing short of revolutionary for their time.

    The Music

    Groundbreaking and epic.

I'll stop here and just say everything :)

    Star Wars*:
The music, the opening shot, Artoo & Threepio, Vader, Leia, Jawas, binary sunset, Alec Guinness, storytime at Old Ben's hut(about the Clone Wars, Luke's father and the lightsabre),the Cantina, Chewie and Han.
    The Empire Strikes Back*:
Pretty much everything but especially Luke, Leia and Han were all better characters and better performances, the music, the asteroid chase, the little fella, Yoda, the force, all the scenes on Dagobah, Cloud City, Lando, Han and Leia's relationship, Chewie, the duel and the last scene.
    Return of the Jedi*:
Jabba, droid torture, the guy who cries about the dead rancor, Ewoks, Ewok village, Threepio's magic, storytime with Threepio, Luke's surrender, Leia, the final duel, the Battle of Endor, Luke stops fighting and Yub Nub.

    Overall:
    This trilogy has heroes

    So much...

Compared to the prequel trilogy, the OT is greatly influenced by the actual US space program. So especially in ANH, many of the shots are reminiscent of photos of spacecraft docking. Even the Imperial logo is actually...reminiscent of the space program. It's like the arrangement of the windows in some of the craft.

Having to use real physical models made the special effects that much more impressive for the viewer. And they also made for more creative moviemaking (creativity comes from constraints), which was ultimately more satisfying.

The message in ROTJ about technology not being invulnerable was a good one. I liked the Ewoks and Jawas.

Story was very good, obviously. Some of the pacing in ESB is really impressive, holds up extremely well to this day.

The lightsaber was better because you had a sense that it was like this electromagnetic device with polar regions.

Palpatine's lightning at the end of ROTJ was terrifying for me at the time.

Imperial ships had this sense of menace and scale which simply...was not present in the prequels. Just seeing the close-in shots of the SSD Executor and knowing that it was a real physical model was pretty awesome.

Of course, I generally prefer older, pre-CGI movies anyways.
