I never said it was clutching at straws to expect a Battlefront game from EA. I said it was clutching at straws to expect a reveal this month.

Any announcements about the Star Wars IP tomorrow are likely to be minor ones. Either the continuation of development on pre-existing projects or a little footnote during the EA conference boasting about what an amazing future they have lined up. I wouldn't hold my breath for any new projects just yet. EA haven't had their hands on the license long enough to turn out anything presentable.

Misinformation and assumptions I'm afraid. The lucasarts source who leaked project assets to Kotaku also stated that 1313 had been handed a number of story threads from Underworld to adapt into its own storyline. With continued development on it for months after that switch of focus from what we saw at E3 2012 it is quite likely that a completed story draft exists. On top of that there is nothing to suggest EA would scrap the entire game due to it not using Frostbite during prior development. It all depends on the cost of continuing development on the current 1313 engine and/or if current assets can be ported over to the engine of their choosing with minimal fuss.

Personally I'm not fussed if 1313 lives or dies. But there is nothing to suggest it is dead and buried.

And about the surprise. The video explicitly mentioned a "couple of surprises". Could EA's PR have messed up? Yes, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they didn't screw up. If that's the case, it's very likely DICE is going to announce a couple of games. And if that's the case, one of those will probably be Battlefront.

Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (A FPS), Dragon Age 3, Project Titan (The new game from ex-Modern Warfare developers) and Mirror's Edge 2 are all EA products known to be having world debuts tomorrow. Those are pretty big surprises. As you point out in your post EA is still hiring staff for their Star Wars projects, which aren't even out of the concept stages yet. Chances of one of their big surprises being a Star Wars game is incredibly slim.

No Bethesda or 1313, and the actual EA press conference was basically doucheathon 2013. We got Battlefront, though, so it's a major win.
