    Has anyone been to it yet? What do you think of it? I have seen pictures of the outside of it in newspapers, and I am not a fan.

    I passed it the other day, and actually found it to be fairly interesting architecture. I believe they've done a good job.

    Anyone got pics? I'm a deprived New South Welshmen who wandered in here after drinking Windex.

    EDIT:

    [image=http://www.2002worldmasters.org/gamesinfo/Pics/Atrium%20cmyk.jpg]

    Good God. IT BURNS!
    How did the architect get permission to construct an eyesore? Especially sticking out of a station? Wouldn't a government building be better?

    I'll have to admit, I haven't seen it in person yet, so I may change my mind...

    I work across the street from the rotten thing and have to stare at it all day long.

    IT SUCKS!

    They thought the "Yellow Peril" of the 70's was ugly, this thing is it's mutated offspring.

    It's Crap, It's Aweful, It's horrible.

    It looks like some child has been chewing on Lego blocks and then vomited them up again.

    But it just wasn't happening:
    [image=http://www1.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/junkyard/flinders2.jpg]

    Find more pics of it being built [link=http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~lerma/federationsquare.htm]Here[/link]

    Personally, I think it looks atrocious and as soon as PoT and I overtake Melbourne in a democratic fashion (or military coup), we'll tear it down and replace with a giant laser hunt facility and bar...

    EDIT: I found more pics [link=http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/galleries/aahome.shtml]here[/link] and [link=http://www.federationsquare.com.au/]here[/link] some of them actually make it look alright...

    In my best fat old bloke Pommy accent "I think it's a load of bollocks."

    And people thought the Gas and Fuel Towers were ugly.

    I wonder how many years it'll be before some government decides it needs a refurbishment because it just fits SOOOO well with the neighbouring architecture.

    From Flinders Street Station it ain't too pretty, but on the other side I found it to be *interesting.* It may not be grand, but it certaintly doesn't suck - we've got to broaden our horizons. One should actually go into the place before passing judgement.

    Btw, did you know that SBS new Melbourne home is there? Firm.

    Actually I can't agree with you there. What it looks like on the inside is irrelevant to how it looks on the outside - after all it's the outside people see first.

    The thing is damn ugly - even if the inside is utterly magestic - and it definately doesn't fit into the facade of the surrounding buildings (well the outside at least).

    They should've taken a leaf out of Crown Casino's or Melbourne Central's book. They both look good on the inside AND the outside.

    The problem with trying to be too radical or too arty is that sometimes you can just end up with something that is just plain
    awful.

    As I said....I work across the road from this eye-sore everyday. I walk through it and around it all the time.

    IT SUCKS.

    The only good this about it is the 400+ seat digital cinema that's housed there.
    Only problems with the Cinema is they will only play "Arty" films and won't play digital films like AOTCs to the general public.

    Damn Melbourne's appeal to the arty yuppie trash which is infecting our city! Bring forth the Star Wars I say...

    *shrugs*

    Well from certain viewpoints it's not a bloody eyesore. From Flinders it's dodgy, I know, but it's not all that bad.

    Zaarin: very firm idea.

    Personally, we should transform Federation Square into a giant skating rink/laser zone/theme park to get the kiddies involved. There's a way to stamp out the art NONSENSE (note that I'm not condemning arty stuff...)
