ST What Does Episode 7 Need For it to be a Star Wars Movie

Well whatever happens it's going to be a Star Wars movie.

The question is will it be the kind that Lucas did for 6 films and if so how much of what he did will it take?

Lucas was always about pushing boundaries and made each film bigger than the last. He had plenty of action at points but then might spend a lot of time with simply building the story. My feeling is that JJ really gets so much into action that the story oftens falls in-between the action as opposed to Star Wars where action fits in between the story. That's rather general though so you can't tell so much between one film and he is only doing the one so there will be no pattern to discern from him.

The relationship from Lucas and Williams created great scores. What will the dynamic of JJ be? Of course VII has the advantage that it can pull out 6 films of scores into it.

So will it be too much of a self homage if JJ wants that?

 

1. Someone losing a limb.
2. At least one giant explosion.
3. C3PO breaking up with R2.
4. Han pointing his finger.

An optimistic message. Star Wars was created to give people hope in the wake of Vietnam and Watergate.

 

- intelligent dialogue having to do with laser brains.
- a Muppet stealing someone's dinner
- a teddy bear roasting the main character over an open fire

Couldn't agree more. The last thing I want to see is another post apocalyptic movie that depresses me.

 

No more end of the world movies!

Pretty much what J.J Abrams is doing.

 

What wasn't depressing about the Jundland Wastes? Or slaughtering Jawas? Or moisture farming??

The leaked TMZ photos didn't exactly paint a pretty picture. You do realize that this galaxy has endured approximately a half century of warfare, right? 'Gonna be some broken stuff.

Not to worry, lads- once Luke fires up his saber, folks will jump out of their seats.

This is an oldie but it has made me laugh - both your gif and the whole "smoothed over" and "safe to love Star Wars again".

 

Lord of the Rings meets Saved by the Bell in Space.

 

The type of music which could stand-alone and still give you an idea of what the film is like.

 

I suppose that it just needs to "feel" like a Star Wars movie. The sort of pulpy feel about everything, the snappy dialogue, the cinematography, the music, some of the more iconic things like lightsabers and the opening crawl and the ending shot, etc. I don't think anyone's worried that it's not going to "feel" like a Star Wars movie after the trailer.

A sense of fun
Wars in the Stars (well yeah)

Lightsabers
Bombastic but beautiful score

and a sense that you are there with them

Oh and mash up beasties like Boga and the Tauntauns (hey, a gal has to put her favorite SW beasties in somewhere.)
