2. I wouldn't mind it having some philosophical questions like ESB.
3. John Williams score.
4. Likable and complex characters.
5. Exciting space and ground battles.
6. Sith and Jedi.
7. New planets and factions.

 

Exciting tie-in products like the Han Solo Big Mac meal and Kylo Ren Sith Collector's laundry detergent.

Thirty years has passed since the destruction of the second Death Star..... Luke Skywalker ..... Han Solo and his faithful companion CHewbacca ..... Princess Leia Organa Solo....

 

but is there going to be an "Episode VII" attached to it ?

 

I would certainly hope so since all 6 films from OT and PT had opening scroll with Episode number..

It needs to be a good movie for me to consider it a Star Wars movie

 

This is an interesting question considering that there seems to be conflicting ideas about what SW actually means and what elements are important.

One side says that the military/strategic part of SW is the key aspect. This includes the ships, weapons, lasters, elements from the past that KEEP continuing no matter how many times they are defeated and how many times the good guys beat them.

Another side seems to look at nostalgic aspects being important. This includes using the same ships, planets, or droids, etc. In this mindset, SW is made up of the elements we've seen and while new elements are great, SW just wouldn't be SW without certain symbols and icons (things, not people) that make it what it is. To some, this does NOT include the Force or lightsabers ironically.

A third side looks at the spiritual/moral/mystical side of the movies. This includes the Force, the light and dark side, Jedi and Sith, family relations that connect all 9 films.

I think that all are somewhat important, but I think that the ranking of importance is #3, #1, and #2. SW isn't RISK but should include a battle between good and bad. The military aspect, like in the other movies, should be merely a backdrop to the personal things going on. SW shouldn't be nostalgic for the sake of being nostalgic and should include designs and objects from the past movies ONLY when absolutely needed to tell a story, which incidentally, should be somewhat new but also connected.
