To the police or the town for doing something illegal. Selling drugs, making moonshine, growing marijuana, illegally zoned business. Or does it take something worse, abuse of animals, children and spouses. Are you lenient towards a good neighbor that might be breaking the law by growing marijuana. No disturbances or loud music or taking up extra parking spaces. Or do you let them do what they want as long as it doesn't affect you or bother you. Would you tell on your neighbor to their spouse if you knew they were cheating on them? And remember have respect for those whose opinions differ, they may be raised differently then you.
I am the same way as you, don't much care unless you are being a bad neighbor. Although would you step in and try to help your neighbor who is a hoarder, whether its pets or stuff?
Meth lab? No, you don't rat them out you go over and kill them and then sell the meth for a hefty profit.
If I heard what sounded like a domestic disturbance, then a loud shot or thud, then see my neighbor burying something suspicious in his backyard, you're darn right I'm calling the cops. (Out in the country, you tend to develop a "as long as it isn't affecting me, my neighbors can do whatever they want" attitude. The space helps, I think.)
first i'd have to formulate a fake scenario in my mind. then i'd have to make a thread that deals with the issues surrounding/implications of this scenario in a general, preliminary manner. then, as the bemused responses roll in, i would slowly roll out the specifics of the scenario, presenting it as a series of actual events that really took place. as the thread explodes to life, i would then sit back and give myself a high five. that is what it would take.
I would definitely not "mind my own business" if the person were producing drugs other than marijuana or dealing anything out of his own home. The effects of that aren't going to magically stop at the property line-- or apartment walls or whatever. For all I know twin cartel assassins may come to kill my neighbor, get the wrong address, and I'll end up with an ax in my skull!
My neighbor was strangling his girlfriend in the hall. When politely requested to stop, he tried to stab me. That's what it took to call the cops.
Well, the last one's okay as long as they're grinding up the victims to use as cat food. You know, the humane route.
Both. I didn't want to press charges and his gf sided with him, soooooo now I just leave them alone when he beats the crap out of her. I only really intervened that time because she was screaming for help. I wouldn't do it again.
Unfortunately, that is what usually happens, until the girl realizes she needs help and that she doesn't deserve to be beaten. I'd call the cops for anything except growing pot or making moonshine. Animal/child abuse/spousal abuse, I'd call the cops in a heartbeat.
When I was younger,my family lived right next door to a meth lab.We didn't know of course, but I always knew there was something funny about that house. If my neighbor ended up using my alfalfa field,I'd rat him out.
