ST What don't you want to see in Episode 7?

Are we really debating whether or not the Republic will exist again by the end of the saga? I think that would really be a given even if Lucas hadn't said it, which he did.

 

He runs around it wearing only a flannelette shirt, making Chewbacca noises.

 

It's likely but I'm considering the possibility that they will blow our minds with something completely unexpected in the ST.

 

Hopefully there will be plenty of unexpected things in this trilogy to blow our minds, but I don't expect or want that to be one of them.

 

Do you mean he said it like, in the 80s? Besides, he doesn't have the reins anymore.

Also, should all the systems be ruled under just one government? I agree, that's what they will probably build toward, but again, it's almost too obvious. Will the people in the years following the Empire want to establish a traditional New Republic after the complete and utter failure of the old one in the PT? Tradition failed the Republic and it failed the Jedi. We have something new now: a blank slate...and a Jedi that wears pants.

Seriously though, who's to say that the various systems won't want to maybe go their own way? It's not like the rebels defeated the Empire and now they get to run the show. Plus, there were separatist systems before. If the goal of this new trilogy is reunification of a New Republic, then they'd better have a better reason than "that's the way it was before" and "democracy good".

 

That's why I think it's important to show the struggles of the new Republic in figuring out how not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

And Lucas may not have the reins, but it's still his story and he still has a lot of pull with the people who are telling it.

 

Again with the Lucas quibbling and talk of a Tabla Rasa seems like a lack of understanding of the story and its mechanics or a general apprehension of the PT, which I hope the ST crystallizes. Though I agree the the New Republic is an assumption. I don't mind a new subplot in the saga, in fact I expect it, but it should be tailored to the overall saga story.

A mythology gag that ends up ragging on the prequels.

 

I don't want to see Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo as the leading characters.

It's funny. I alternate between bashing the guy and defending him. Guess I'm in a bashing mood now.

 

I don't want to see a movie that's just a bunch of Jedi and Sith. That's not enough to call it Star Wars.

 

I'm pretty much the same way. The stuff he's been involved in that I like, I really like. The stuff he's been involved in that I don't like, I really don't like. That being said, I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt until/unless I see something that's totally stupid.

JJ Abrams playing a keyboard solo. I know that Episode VII will feature elements of his personal style, but in my opinion, this would be a step too far.
