On the other hand, a deeper analysis of thematic or conceptual elements, like we do with SW, is often quite enjoyable.

Exactly, I love talking about the themes and concepts, such as the meaning behind the cave on Dagobah, or comparing certain characters in the films to characters from mythic legend.

But I don't give a rat's ass about the name of the guy who doesn't shoot down R2 and 3PO's pod nor do I care that you can see a red sleeve sticking out of the arm of the Wampa when it attacks Luke. If it wasn't for overly picky fanboys, I wouldn't even give those things a thought.

WOTW is now out...and boy was that fun!
    Woohoo!
Best movie of 2005 so far...in my opinion.

Well after A.I. my faith was shaken a wee bit.
But it's great to have Spielberg back to his true form.
Boy he knows how to create intense scenes.

I watched Labyrinth for the first time last night, borrowed a projector from the school where we work and played it up on a plain white sheet on the lounge room wall (worked surprisingly well) Cooked up some popcorn and and made a bit of a night of it.

    Now that was fun.

Now I just have to convince the missus that we should buy our own projector and a proper screen.

Damn this saving for a wedding thing.

No, sometimes I also think about the origins of belly button lint, although this will take many more years of research.

Margaret and David have. Their review, I think, would have emphasised the "Fanta" element in the title if they were pushed to it.

Yep. Someone really needs to put a warning sign above that 'Instant Blockbuster' button they have in Hollywood.

Too late. Dr Karl beat you to it: Ignobel

As for movies ... when the budget (and revenue) of a single movie could clear third world debt and famine, and then some, I like to think its contribution to the world is going to be slightly more ambitious than giving your eyes something to do while eating a choc top.

And when I spend money on a movie, I kinda hope that I'm going to see something that is worth the time and money. I don't want to spend 2 hours and good money on a movie and then come home and see something much better on tv for free.

And if someone sounds like a bad movie reviewer, its probably because they are. Some people like to say more than [something] > [movie]. And if you don't want to listen to someone go on and on and on about a movie, then why not take advantage of that little scrollbar at the side of the browser ... ?

Which really begs the question - How exactly does it ruin your life if somebody posts a 10,000 word essay on why they didn't like WotW ? And while I'm ranting, why should people who enjoy writing and reading mammoth critiques of movies stop, simply because somebody doesn't want to read them ?

    / rant :)

Erm.. I've seen a few good things on tv this year that were free (although I suppose in numbers they were far outweighed by crap..)

Lost and Carnivalé immediately spring to mind.
