Or maybe he is like Madonna, Sting and Cher... just a dbag
What if he wasn't actually an Emperor, but his first name was Emperor
Knowing George Palpatine's name would mean something. Maybe even say something about his nature or him being a Sith.
Interestingly if you break the name Anakin down you will get "peerless warrior", "warrior without family" and I believe "fatherless warrior".
Luke can mean "Light" or "bringer of light".
"Darth Vader" is Dutch for "Dark Father" or so I am told. In one draft the name belonged to a priest so it got quite well.
But if you take "Vader" and put "in" at the beginning you get "invader". You can also talk the "r" off and get "invade". Either way you get a variation of invader. Another one is take off the "r" and place an "e" before the "v" and you have "evade". Make of this what you will.
"Sidious" with "in" at the beginning becomes "insidious" which fits the Emperor to a T. "Maul" is self-explanatory. Dooku's Sith name is "tyrant" for lack of better words.
It only makes sense that on some level that Palpatine's first name would have a deeper meaning.

"The Starman and Moon Goddess."
I think Dante Palpatine suits him. Dante means "lasting, enduring".
