What Happened to Basbakhan? ***Spoilers??***

I'm in the middle of re-reading all the NJO books, and I just finished BP. A question that occurred to me the first time I read it just came back to me: what happened to Leia's other Noghri bodyguard, Basbakhan?

When the Vong landed, Olmahk was killed defending Leia, but Basbakhan was keeping watch on Randa. When Leia and Randa are locked up together, Leia asks about him:

"Where's Basbakhan?"
"They took him," Randa moaned.
"He's dead, then."
"No, no."
They took a Noghri alive?

Then at the very end, when they're all escaping on the Falcon, there's this, between Leia and Jacen:

"But...Duro...Basbakhan..."
"We're evacuating," Jacen said. What had happened to her other Noghri? "Basbakhan?" he asked.

Then she passes out and doesn't answer him.

I'm remember thinking the first time I read this that something was obviously being set up for a future book, but now four books later, and there's still no mention of it. Any ideas on what this was all about?

 

i think he's dead. lucasfilm and delrey might explain what the hell happened to him later, but i doubt it. he's a really minor character and they just probably forgot all about him.

almost all of the other noghri characters have been trated this way IMHO.

 

Leia's Noghri don't seem to have a long life-expectancy, do they?

It just seemed that a special point was made here, to hint that he wasn't dead, and that something interested had either happened TO him, or was done BY him.

The more I think about this, the curiouser I am...

 

So no one else has any theories on this, huh?

Like maybe he's been captured by the Vong, and the shapers are even now in the process of making a race of super-Noghri/Vong hybrids, to replace the Chazrach and finish the job against the NR.

Or he's gone behind enemy lines, and the NJO will end just like the Thrawn trilogy, with Tsavong Lah getting wacked by a single Noghri.

Just a couple of ideas...

 

Perhaps he is still a captive, perhaps in Traitor when we read about Jacen in captivity, Jacen will meet him again, and with the help of Vergere the two will escape...

 

God, if some uber-Noghri clone/voxyn crap comees up in some book, i'll stop reading.

A Cloned Noghri would be good and bad, and also depending on who wrote it.

Most likly he/she was sacrificed, they like sacrificeing the best worriors, not cowards.

 

Cloned noghri vong beasties? Rather too like the voxyn.

It would be interesting to see Basbakham in Traitor.

 

leia says in bp that she almost pities the vong who have captured basbakhan, so we're probably meant to belive that basbakhan dies, taking out a good many vong in the process...

yay for noghri!

 

Seriously he's most likly a rotting corps. Thats what happens to all noghri.
