Rey went on the important mission to find Luke, who needed a jolt to get into action after he suffered a colossal failure that he could not get past. When you feel like the whole Jedi Order failed because it was arrogant with the Force, and all you know is what Yoda taught you and you can't see any light in your own nephew and anything you might do will make it worse .... where do you go after that? Rey got Luke to reconnect to the Force (remember, he was 20 before he even knew what it was; disconnecting would not have been hard), so Yoda could come kick his ass and get him past the failure.

Weirdly enough, Rey needed Kylo to kick her ass and admit that he family was not coming back for her. You did not know what she knew about her family in the last film, but now with TLJ it is clear that she was hanging on to hope that Mom and Dad would come back for her long past the point when she should have accepted that they were not coming back.

Rey took the basic Jedi manuals, but had she taken Luke and the Jedi Orders' failure to heart. She's the spark to re-start the Jedi and it looks like she has to do something new, not the old-style learning that Luke was trying.

I doubt Kylo & Hux would want that publicly known. It would make the FO seem vulnerable & would give people hope. They'll probably say he died in his sleep, or something like that.
