Below is a link to the Mandalorian Mercs forum. This is a discussion that I have opened up in regard to a fund raiser that I would like to try at OryCon. It is pretty much a discussion on the proposal, legal disclaimer and release form aspects of the activity for OryCon.

I spoke with OryCon's committee today and pitched the idea of doing a "Jail and Bail" fund raiser. Don't know what it is? Go read the thread. It is some good stuff... I think anyway.

At any rate, I definitely want OFF input into this project, as I think we all can make it a huge success.

I have reserved 2 tables this year. One for the Mercs and one for other Star Wars groups to showcase themselves. The second table is my gift to the OFF, if they want to make use of it, to showcase themselves however they see fit. The only requirement is that whoever mans the table, has to have their admission "membership" - those are OryCon's rules, not mine. And, it would be nice if we could have people we trust, watching our table while we are "bounty hunting". If anyone here wouldn't mind...

At any rate, the OryCon Committee has tasked me to come up with a solid proposal that meets all of ther concerns. Since I've never really done anything of this scale before, any help would be great. I just don't know how to properly word it all...

    Thanks, all!

I looked at the idea, and it sounds good. Will random people be put in "jail", or will members be put in there?

Random people from the con attendance are the targeted people. Obviously, we can't pull someone off the street and throw them in the jail cell - there are kidnapping laws that prevent such a thing.

The committee made it very clear that only those who are willing to participate can be subject to being captured. That is to say, they wanted some sort of opt in/out clause attached to the proposal, disclaimer and release form.

Which all three documents are symbiotic with each other, I should think. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics, but basically, attendees will be given an option to participate, should they want to. We need to be able to readily idetify who are willing participants and who aren't. One thought I had was having a dot sticker with "JB" or "MM" written on it and attached the the admission badge. "JB" for Jail/Bail, or "MM" for Mandalorian Mercs. If an attendee had a dot sticker (or whatever form of identifying mark we use) attached to their admission badge, then they are fair game. If they don't have the identifying mark, then they are not elligible to participate.

The release form is a form of legal disclaimer that they are participating willingly. The disclaimer is so that OryCon, as an entity, can deny all responsibility for the running of the fundraiser.

Like I said.. if there is anyone who can help me with the wording, I would appreciate it. I will try to draft somethng and se where we can go with it.

That makes much more sense. So, would you have to mark if you wanted to be "arrested" when you enter the show on a form?

The dot sticker, or whatever we use, is the identifying mark that publicly states that the individual is willing to be arrested.

Let's say Suzi and her friend come to OryCon. Suzi thinks it is real cute to have the Mercs go capture her friend for the bounty. So we collect the bounty and then go after Suzi's friend. Only, when approaching Suzi's friend we notice that there is no identifying mark on the admission badge. Because there is no identifying mark, we would NOT capture the attendee, unless they gave a verbal authorization to do so. And even then I think it would be good to have some sort of release form for the purpose of CYA.

I got that. What I was asking was; is there a form that you sign when you enter if you want to have the dot sticker?

Those are the logistics that I am trying to work out. That was one of the reasons for the release form. They had offered to attach it to the website so that those who do their admission registrations would be away of it. They could probably set something up so that if someone registers online, that they can opt in/out of participating.

See, they print up the badges there at the Con (for those who buy their admission memberships on the day of the con). It would be real easy to attach the sticker on, right then and there. Same could be said true with those that are pre-made and ready for those who registered online to pick them up.

How about a sticker for the badge is the RED Mando "Death Skull" you see on Boba's shoulder? Would be readliy noticeable.

That is an excellent suggestion. The only thing that is the determining factor is cost. I need to keep the costs down as much as possible. Which is why I am simply leaning toward a simple dot sticker that can be easily affixed to the attendee's membership badge.

This is what I was thinking of: http://www.latitudesmapstore.net/orange-map-dot-stickers--18-in18.html

It is very basic, very simple and very cheap. For less than $4, I can get 600 stickers that are 1/4 of an inch in diameter. Perfect for our needs. It is a highly visible sticker, so there is no mistaking who is willing to participate and who isn't.

Cost comes before style, so that sounds good, Bill.

So here is my first crack at the proposal portion of the documents that I need to write up for the OryCon Committee. Please feel free to critique the hell out of it. If you think it would sound better by saying something different, please by all means, let me know. If there is something you think I am missing, please let me know.

Thanks for your time invested in this project. I do appreciate all the helpful pointers I can get!

How the ?Jail and Bail? fundraiser works.

The premise is simple. The "Jail and Bail" works by having an OryCon attendee offer a $10 ?Bounty? donation to have the Mandalorian Mercs seek out, and ?capture? another attendee* of their choosing (family, friend, etc). The ?captured? attendee must be a willing participant of the fundraiser.

The attendee will then enter into a ?contract? with the Mandalorian Mercs to solidify the ?bounty?. The contract will consist of the written understanding of the fundraiser, and its intent ? which is to raise money for Oregon?s Children?s Cancer Association, is the sole responsibility of the Mandalorian Mercs, and is in no way, shape, or form operated by the OryCon organization. The ?Jail and Bail? is an activity run, and operated by the Mandalorian Mercs, and their appointed representatives, only.

The Mandalorian Mercs will then go out and search for their ?bounty?. Once found, the ?bounty? will be verified that they are a willing participant** in the fundraiser. When the ?bounty? is confirmed, the ?captured? attendee will be placed in mock up binders*** and escorted back to the ?jail?****.

At this time, the ?captured? attendee has the option to donate a $5 ?Bail?, ask other passing attendee?s for said ?bail?, or sit in ?jail? for no more than 15 minutes. ?Captured? attendees may opt out of the process at any time, but the Mandalorian Mercs reserve the right to keep the $10 ?Bounty? donation for the CCA.

Attendees will have an opportunity to have pictures taken with the Mandalorian Mercs while they are in ?jail? to commemorate their participation of this fundraiser. Pictures will be emailed or send through United States Post Service, at the attendee?s preference.

All proceeds (100%) will be donated to the Oregon chapter of the Children?s Cancer Association. All promotional and productional costs of the ?Jail and Bail? fundraiser is paid for as out-of-pocket expenses on the part of the Mandalorian Mercs. N reimbursement for expenses paid will be taken from donated money.

The Mandalorian Mercs will give a full accounting of how much money was raised to the OryCon organization so that they can report it in their convention newsletter.

    * Should an attendee place a ?bounty? on a friend who does not have the identifying mark, the Mandalorian Mercs can opt to not honor the bounty. We will always ask the attendee if they are willing to be ?captured?, for the express purpose of raising money on behalf of Oregon?s chapter of the Children?s Cancer Association.

** All attendees will be given an option to accept, or decline the option to participate in the Jail and Bail fundraiser by having a specially marked sticker attached to their OryCon admission badge. This sticker will be the identifying marker that indicates that the attendee is a willing participant in the fundraiser activity.

*** The mock up binders will be Imperial ? style handcuffs, as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope. They are made of pvc pipe pieces held together by a cabinet hinge and magnets. The restraints are not real, but a facsimile to put on a show. At no time is the attendee?s civil liberties truly deprived. The magnets are of kitchen cabinet grade, and can be opened by said attendee at any time, should they desire to remove them.

**** The jail will be constructed of pvc piping and couplers. This is a static prop designed to look like a real working jail cell. There are no real locks on the jail cell, so the attendee?s civil liberties are not truly deprived. Attendees are free to leave the jail cell as they wish.
