What if when Windu decided to kill Palpatine, Anakin only blocked his lightsaber with his own, but not deciding to fight him (unlike the ROTS video game, where he did fight him). Do you think Palpatine would try to kill Mace while he and Anakin argue? Would Anakin have turned to the Dark Side? Would 2 plus 2 equal fish?

I think that if Anakin simply blocked the blow from Windu, the end result would have been the same. Palpatine would have struck

Essentially he did. He didn't land the killing blow but...lets be honest here in a court of law he'd be on trial as an accomplice in 2nd degree murder.

Even if Mace had somehow been able to survive the entire ordeal, he wouldn't have been able to make a difference. The Jedi Order was done as soon as Palpatine's face was scarred during a Jedi takeover of the Republic - it was all the political currency he needed to stir up anti-Jedi sentiment within the Republic.

Incorrect. As far as we know, Sidious was the only surviving person in the entire galaxy who knew about Order 66 and who could activate/trigger it in the clones. If Mace killed him before that happened, Order 66 would never have happened and the Jedi would have restored order (using the very clones they were commanding)

No because he chopped of his hand that was holding the lightsaber. If that hand was still in tact, he could have still had the ability to defend himself from the force lightning. Getting that hand chopped off changed everything.

Anakin would have blocked the shot, and Palpatine would have struck while the lightsaber was being blocked, the end is the same

A blocked hand is as useless as no hand

Agree. Palpatine would have then struck. Once Anakin decided to block the blow he had made his decision. Would Anakin have stopped Palpatine's lightening after blocking Mace's blow? Doubtful.

My thoughts on this matter is that Mace Windu was betrayed by Anakin. If Skywalker would not have turned on Mace the outcome would be diffrent.

If Mace blocks Anakin's blade there possibly could have been a fight between Mace and Anakin. Just saying and Sidious would have watched and waited to strike the jedi.

Anakin could deflect the force lighting back at Sidious and do the Jedi thing.

To me there is a bunch or possiblities that are awesome to explorer. [face_dancing]

I think mace shatterpoint ability can be useful to see what palpantine will do if anskin blocked mace's killing blow.

Sidious had a plan. No matter how things would have turned out in that moment, his top priority would have been to kill Mace and turn Anakin. I feel the result would have been the same.
He was certainly the cause of his death. Cutting off someone's arm and forcing them to lose their weapon, leaving them defenseless? That's a recipe for manslaughter.
Not necessarily. If Sidious died the Empire would have never been born and Anakin would have stayed as a knight in the Jedi council. Sidious was the chess master playing everyone, and without him, then everything would have fallen apart. He was absolutely necessary.
    But this isn't a game. It's a movie.
Well, maybe. Anakin still would have been in some trouble.

The shatter point ability is from the books. It's wonderfully enriching to the character of Mace, but it means nothing to the movies. :(

in the ROTS game Anakin blocks Mace's saber and then they fight. Eventually Anakin stabs Mace in the chest and kicks him out the window. (Trivia, nothing more)

Anakin never "decided" he was going to kill Mace. He decided to stop Mace from killing Palps. A better phrasing of the question would be "What if Anakin did not intervene with Mace and Palpatine?"

If Anakin was there it would depend on his ability to defeat Palpatine. This would be the only way to stop Order 66.

If Anakin was not there perhaps Mace would have died and Order 66 would have happened anyways.

I personally think Mace wasn't going to ever kill Palpatine. He doesn't seem injured by the fighting or lightning. The scars might just be cosmetic.

Ultimately though mace was doomed by his own actions. While Anakin brought a lot of scorn and shame upon himself with his behavior, the council always frowned upon him from the start.

I'm not excusing his behavior or actions, but a healthy relationship doesn't start with one side already viewing the other with prejudice.

The only way Anakin would have decided against stopping Mace would have stemmed from a chain of events that would need to be completely different from what occurred.

The distrust goes too deep, there needed to be fundamental differences in the whole way Anakin was brought up to be a Jedi.

If Anakin blocked Windu but did not strike him then Palpatine would still use the lightning force to send Windu out of the window and to his death.
If Anakin blocked Windu and then proceeded to kill Palpatine himself then Order 66 would never have been ordered, the Jedi would still be alive as Generals of the Clone Army and the Clone Wars would continue, albeit only for a short time due to there being no SKILLED seperatist leader. Anakin would still be the chosen one, having brought balance to the force- 23 years early.

GL states that Palpatine is faking weakness when he "runs out of gas" using Force lightning against Mace. He also states that Palpatine's real appearance is scarred and disfigured and that his normal appearance was actually the disguise. Given what GL says and the fact that Palpatine orchestrated the entire confrontation to occur in the first place convinces me that Palpatine was not in great danger because he wouldn't have been dumb enough to orchestrate a confrontation that would likely lead to his own death. Palpatine's a smart guy, and that would be pretty dumb. I don't know if Palpatine threw the lightsaber duel, though it is pretty coincidental that Palpatine is disarmed an instant before Anakin enters the room. However, Palpatine is definitely faking weakness when using the Force lightning. We know this because GL says he is. Also, the instant Mace is disarmed, Palpatine bursts back to life and blasts Mace full force, showing that he hadn't really tired out in the first place. So, since Palpatine was faking weakness, it seems to me that he could've simply held off Mace (theoretically forever) or he would have simply overwhelmed Mace's defense and fried him with Force lightning if Anakin never showed up. Palpatine is able to blast the lightsaber out of Yoda's hand using Force lightning, and the novelization says that Palpatine lets up an instant before Mace was going to be overwhelmed, and since Palpatine was faking that he ran out of gas, it seems he could've gone past that instant where Mace was about to be overwhelmed. The biggest difference really would be that Palpatine would have had to come up with another scenario that would persuade Anakin to embrace the dark side. Palpatine still would've had justification for Order 66 because his main justification were that the Jedi tried to kill him and he was left scarred and disfigured. All of that would have remained true even if Anakin had never shown up.

If you take into account Palpatine's real motive for revealing to Anakin that he was a Sith and look at it not as a hypothetical question, then you really have to conclude that most likely the confrontation would have never even occurred. Palpatine orchestrated the confrontation because he knew it was highly likely that Anakin would come and intervene on his behalf. That's the main reason Palpatine wanted the confrontation to occur in the first place. It was done to put Anakin in a position where he had to choose to embrace the dark side. He knew that the Jedi were coming for him, and he knew that Anakin wouldn't let them kill him. If he felt his life was in jeopardy, he would've taken off beforehand (he tried to flee when Yoda confronted him) or had clone troopers there to help him or he simply wouldn't have encouraged Anakin to reveal to the Jedi that he was a Sith in the first place. Palpatine wanted that confrontation to occur because he was pretty certain that Anakin would take his side. Palpatine's greatest ability is his ability to use Force foresight (see the future), and he knew Anakin better than anyone. If he had any real fear that Anakin wouldn't come and intervene, then Palpatine wouldn't have set it up so that the confrontation would occur in the first place. So, my answer is that if Anakin wouldn't end up intervening, then Palpatine never would have orchestrated the confrontation, and it wouldn't have even happened.

I think if mace would have loved and would of moved away from palpatine to discuss the situation better with Anakin things could of been different
