Why does this thread assume Padme would have gone with Vader after leaving Mustafar? Why not with Obi-Wan and the droids?

If she goes with Anakin by force, eventually Palpatine will detect that she is pregnant with twins and will embrace her long enough just to give birth to Vader's offspring. She gives up her position in the Imperial Senate and lives in the isolation of her chambers with Vader on Coruscant waiting for his return every time he leaves on an errand for the Emperor. After the twins are born, Palpatine arranges for her to die or go missing under mysterious circumstances. He will probably blame a Jedi for doing it in revenge against Vader.

The Force twins are separated from Vader to be trained in the service of the Empire by Palpatine himself. Eventually many years down the line, the Emperor arranges for a way to eliminate the old and slowing Vader to replace him with whichever twin kills the other to become his own apprentice. Or the twins overthrown Vader and the Emperor together to take control of the galaxy and kill each other off in an attempt for domination.

If she goes with Obi-Wan, lives through the birth of the Skywalker twins, I don't think they will be raised separated in exile. Padme finds a secret location to hide out using her many connections from the Senate probably raising both children together still under extreme protection. Yoda still goes to Degobah. Obi-Wan lives nearby in vigilance, but far away enough to avoid detection by the Empire. He eventually sends them to Yoda to be trained in the ways of the Force. From there Padme secretly supports the Rebellion and the twins support it as well to eventually overthrow the Empire.

If Padme survived episode 3, she would go into hidding or be Vaders prisoner. The twins may be raised by Naboo relative, but Anakin Vader would figure out a way to imprison Padme. She would be well kept though. Well guarded. If she was allowed to go anywhere stormies would have to escort her.

As I understand it, the question is simply what would have happened had Padme lived. By inference, everything else played out the same way: Anakin still fought Obi-Wan, and lost, and was dismembered and forced to wear the Vader suit. Ultimately however, this would not have altered very much; Padme would have left with Obi-Wan (and in this case raised her children herself) or gone alone and let her babies with Bail and the Tatooine Skywalkers as in the original timeline, for their own safety. In either case however, Palpatine would have gone to any length to have her found and killed - she was too important a political symbol and gifted leader for one thing, and a distraction (to put it mildly) for his apprentice Vader. Simultaneously or perhaps even breaking from under Sidious' thumb, Vader would ALSO have spent his whole life hunting her down (he obsessed with her to what is basically an insane degree by this stage.)

If Palpatine gets to her first: so long Padme, it was nice knowing you. If Vader gets there first: she is either his captive or he gives into his rage and we still end up with a corpse. If she raised the children, whoever got there first gets a pair of twin apprentices, at least one of which is nearly at Anakin-pre-suiting levels of power and quite possibly both - I think Leia would have been pretty darn powerful with her genes if she had been a full time Jedi instead of dabbled thanks to her political/family situation. If the children were left as per the canon timeline, things would have played out in much the same way as the original timeline, though the Sith pair might become aware of the twins' existence sooner and hunt them down before they could become a threat, and turn or kill them.

Once Anakin turned, Padme was done for one way or the other... it became a question of when.

Hmm - well possibly like Obi-Wan Kenobi - heartbroken but resilient to the end - providing 'emotional' and 'moral' support for Leia/Luke and perhaps possibly still leading or doing some duties in the Senate or even later working with Mon Mothma for the future Rebel Alliance? As a 'mentor' to Leia and Luke for the matter ...
