    Can someone tell me what this discussion about Star Wars being canon means? What does canon mean?

    Ahhh the sacro-saint canon...

    Well, basically, from a GFFA POV, what is canon HAPPENED.

    The movies are canon, that's a 100% fact.

    Now the debate is whether or not the EU is canon. The average EU fan will say yes, whereas the movie-only fans will defend themselves to death while saying NO (the EU fan will do the same, of course ;) ) !

    The only 'EU' thing that is not canon is everything with an 'Infinities' label on it, everyone agrees about that.

    But it seems that recently, according to TOS, Lucasfilm indeed consider everything as canon, except for the Infinities labelled things.

    But the only thing that'd settle the matter would be an official announcement from GL saying either 'The EU is Canon.' or 'The EU is NOT Canon.'

    Sure, why not? Aren't laws a basis of a society? Then laws can govern the SW EU. We just seem to have trouble defining those laws here.
