i have noticed a lot of clarinetists in here, very cool! i started playing the alto sax in the 5th grade and all the way threw high school... then when i got to college they made me go to clarinet, wich was a pretty easy transistion, ive been playing the clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet for the past couple years, a lot of fun!

I love music and it's a pity I don't get to play as often now, having moved away from home.

Anyhew, I play the piano (12 years), acoustic, classical and bass guitar (6 years), violin (self taught and I suck), soprano, alto and tenor recorder (10 years), keyboards (10 years), pipe (church) organ (just a couple of year's training and no where else to practise), and the double bass (same situation with the organ).

All pretty much similar instruments. I want to learn more woodwinds and brass

I'm the trombone section leader in my school (out of 15 people!)
    I play tuba for fun.
I play piano for inspiration (Moonlight Sonata, anyone?)
I play the bass for my Church youth group.
I play acoustic guitar for anything, but mainly for relaxation.
I play my Reissue '76 Gibson Explorer (made in the USA!) to annoy my neighbors, along with my Crate Cabinet with 4 12" speakers. I play OLD Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy......good times.

'Allo all you musos, this is my first post in this forum and I decided it would be in this thread. So. I've played piano since I was a wee tot, I took up double bass and bass guitar for a few years, but mostly now in regards to performance I sing in a chamber choir at the Conservatorium I study at.

What I mainly do is write music, not play it. I'm a composer! :)

EDIT: Cindé - what is a coramuse?? And what does it sound like and how do you play it?

ya i played violin for about 2 months... its high and squeeky and everyone else plays it. Thats why i started the viola. It has a nice deep sound and it playes well. Also not many people play it so that you can really be noticed. I dont know but i enjoy it. Unfortunatly i find myself doing more "important" things then practicing so i almost never practice. And im probably going to pick up guitar.

The coramuse (and I have no idea whether I've spelled it right!) is a medieval windcap instrument with no hole at the bottom. Actually, it's very similar to the shawm, if you know what that is - well, you didn't ask about the krumhorns, so maybe you know something about medieval instruments? ;) Maybe not. Anyway, it sounds like a loony duck. But then, so do most medieval windcap instruments. :D

Oo! that sounds really funky, Cindé.. I think I may have actually seen one being played once, it was really impressive.. could have just been a shawm though, not sure. Oh and yep I've heard of shawms, and the krumhorn sounded vaguely familiar too.. just not the coramuse. Those kinda instruments have a great sound though!! I like that squawky duck noise.. great for fast fiddly passages ;)
