Looks like one of those ninja chain things.

Perhaps it's one of those three-segment staves. I forget what they're called, but the three segments are usually connected by a chain, but in this case - plasma.

sweet! I hope that gets used in Ep II. That brings the number of light weapons, styles to:

One lightsaber: Most Jedi/Sith use this.

Two lightsaber: Anakin Skywalker/Solo, Luke Skywalker, Boc.

    Dual-phase lightsaber: Corran Horn.

Lightwhip: I've heard of it, don't know who uses it.

    Lightstaff: Exar-Kun, Darth Maul.

    Lightnunchucks: Plo Koon?

I don't think it's a 'light' weapon... The purple haze must be some kind of energy binder, just like those seen on a podrace and in the Mystery trailer...

Nah, I think Val and Nom got it right.

Actually luke had a dual-phase lightsaber in SOTE, the one he caries around with him betwen ANH, and ESB, that used to be his fathers. He can extend it or shrink it with a special switch or knob. Most sourcebooks show that vader has the same knob as well. Even darth-maul's lightsaber was shown with a similer type extra knob on his lightsaber in the star wars dictionary. But only place he has used that feature that I'm awhare was in jedi power battles.

As I recall that weapon is called a: "Nunchakus".

Yeah, they're called nunchucks, to transliterate from TMNT. THose things do appear to be energy binders, but if you look at the ends of the handles, you'll see what could be the beginning of a light-weapon of some sort...

    Looks completely silly to me.

Also looks like he still has a (maybe two?) lightsabres on his belt...

Yes it's easier to see in the issue. But I can't find refrences to them in the article, it's just a bunch of rule gobbedlygoop for the rpg.

Yes, it appears to be a completely impractical weapon...but who cares? ;)

Yeah, he wouldn't be able to use em like normal nunchakus, he'd either cut himself or make himself numb in parts.

Those aren't nunchakus. Nunchakus are two short sticks connected with a string or chain and meant to be swung with a single hand.

Are you sure it is a weapon?

It looks like you could deactivate it and it would be like a long lightsaber blade.

Whatever it is, its weird and not very practical at all. The chances of hitting yourself...

And Nom Anor is right, its not nunachakus. (never know how to spell that) It looks different.

I'm not sure of the actual word for it, but there are some "triple-nunchukus" like that, with 3 segments.

Yeah. My friend, who is currently taking classes on nunchakus, agreed that its probably a variant of the weapon. He thinks there might be some real ones like that, but they arn't very popular.

Whatever they are, the whole thing looks silly and stupid.

    Val...
I don't think it's a "ninja chain thing." Traditional "ninja chain things" are kusari-gama. It's a chain with a sickle on it. Some haev weights instead of the sickle.

In fact, it doesn't have its origins rooted in Japenese culture nor ninjas at all. Rather, it's chinese in origin. Wu Shu arts use the weapon.

Nom Anor is 100% correct, IMO.

It looks to be a variation on what American martial arts simply calls a "Three-Sectional Staff."

The skills required to master a three-section staff are vastly different than skills required for the nunchaku. :)

even if it isn't a "light" weapon i bet those purple things still hurt, or atleast sting. like when jar-jar put his hand in the podracer thing in episode 1.

    Thanks for the confirmation Genghis!

I took Shao-lin Do (a Chinese martial arts) for about ten years until I got my first degree black belt. I didn't get to use one of those weapons though, as those are in the higher black belt curriculum, which few people get to.

The coolest weapon I got to train with is called a kwando. It is a staff with a curved sickle-like blade on the end.

    Who used the Lightwhip weapon?

I can't seem to remeber the name of the comicbook it was in.

It is a "Three-piece rod". It's a martial arts weapon that is another derivative of the agricultural flail. It is made of three, two to three foot long pieces of hard wood (or steel) connected by 2 short sections of chain (or in this case ?).

It's use is disimilar to the nunchakus because of the third staff piece and the extra chain. It can be used to strike, block an attack, or catch and break an opponent's weapon. Like the nunchakus, it is quite a complicated weapon to master (if not more so). It's origin is very similar to the nunchakus... both were derived from the agricultural flail.

    Interesting...
