What is the most powerful line in SW?

"Size matters not. Look at me, judge me by my size do you?"

 

I went with "Your father he is."

After ESB, there was doubt the Vader was Luke's father. You didn't want to believe it. He had to be lying. He was a Dark Lord of the Sith.

The first time I saw ROTJ and Yoda confirms this....

The whole Yoda death scene was probably the most powerful of the OT, especially on first viewing.

 

For me, there is no specific line in the movies that is the most powerful. The story itself is amazingly powerful, and as much as people would try to deny it, it is universally acceptable. Consider that the story is entirely about heroes. Heroes were something the Greeks and Romans spoke about. In todays society, the heroes are not the athletes or movie stars, but the creations of our own mind. The Greek myths were used to explain something that people couldn't explain. Today, there are not many things we can't (or think we can't) explain besides our own true feelings. Thats how Star Wars touches everyone. The simple emotional link that connects us all. And Luke Skywalker's connection to the Greek myths is undeniable. A boy who realizes he has mystical powers, is taught by wise but confusing mentors, and is guided along a path that is his destiny.

 

"Join Me Now and We Can End This Destructive Conflict"

Means more now than it did then.

 

Actually many of Vaders line's.

But what about Luke's simple "never" to the emperour. After he looks at Vaders sizzled arm and then his own hand.

 

"Powerful jedi was he. Powerful jedi."
(Technically, the second powerful shouldn't count... it's a separate line.)

"Indeed you are powerful as the Emperor has foreseen."

Of course, there are many more, but I can't think of a time when the word powerful was used twice in one line.



Oops, I must of misread the title. I thought it said "What line in SW had powerful the most?"

I think the most powerful line in SW is:

- I will train Anakin!

 

"Never. I'll never turn to the darkside. You've failed your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me" This line always is so powerful to me. It's what brings about Anakin's redemption. I get the chills every time I watch that scene. A close 2nd is "No, I am your father."

 

1. "No, I am your father." This scene is still immensely pwerful, twenty years and thousands of viewings later.

2. "Your father he is." It's interesting how the most important things are a single line of dialogue. No further explanation needed.

3. "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." I like how this kinda ties in with:

4. "I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father." That's kinda clever.

5. Anything Vader says to Luke in ROTJ.

 

"Are you an angel?"

Just kidding. I voted for:

"No, I am your father."

 

Can't believe nobody has put a single Tarkin line in yet? shame on you all! tut tut!

Most powerful lines simply because they unleashed the power of the Death Star!

 

For me it's when Luke screams, "No!" as Ben is cut down. It's probably due to the music as well, but I still get shivers when I hear it. None of the other lines or deliveries do that.

 

I was going to say, "No, I am your father", but if EPIII turns out like expected, we will know Anakin is Vader way before that line in ESB, so all the power will be lost.

 

The "No, I am your father" line still has the same effect on Luke. That's what matters to the story.

I love that one. The setting. The scene. The atmosphere. The way the music swells after Vader said it.

I also love "Tell your sister...you were right."

Also when Luke was screaming, "Father, please! Help me!" when Palpy was zapping him. I always get tears in my eyes at that.

 

Some favorites that didn't make the list...

"Wars not make one great."

"And not just the men...but the women...and the children, too..."

"Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try."

 

For me, in TESB, while Luke is training and cannot lift his X-wing out of the swamp.

Yoda shows Luke how it is done using the force. Luke says "I don't believe it"

Yoda "That is why you fail"
