What is the most powerful line in SW?

"No, I am your father!"

This has to be the most powerful line in SW since it came as such a shock. In ESB the Emperor says to Vader "The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi". In ANH Obi-Wan tells Luke that his father was murdered by Vader. You have no idea that Vader actually is Lukes father. It's all very clever if you ask me.

The look on Lukes face is a classic as he immedeiately knows that Vader is telling the truth even though he can't beleive it's true. He searches his feelings.

 

That one was a no-brainer. Star Wars is KNOWN for that "No, Luke, I AM your father" line.

 

I think another line on the list should've been Anakin's "But not just the men..." line.

 

There are lots of powerful lines that aren't on this poll.

 

"You've failed, your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."


That's the most powerful line.

Anyone noticing a pattern here?

Oh, to be sure, this is in the Classic Trilogy forum, but let's be honest.

When you compare the 'quotables' from the PT with the OT, it's a joke.

Does anything in AOTC compare with Yoda's Force explanation? It is possible that something Palpy says in Ep 3 might match some stuff in RotJ, but by then we won't care as much about those characters.

We had dramatic build-ups to the deaths of Obi-Wan, Darth, Yoda, even the Emperor. GL in his writing, and his directors did not seem afraid to linger on an emotional moment or build up to a genuine one.

Contrast this with the "insert cliched line here to invoke 'emotion'" approach currently in use.

There are too many to list from RotJ and ESB.

Yoda's force explanation is good on a bunch of levels because it not only is about the Force but about Luke too(this one a long time have I watched...)

EDIT: Actually I think the whole scene(s) with Luke and the Emperor's face-off was powerful.

Best delivery in my opinion, and the most powerful as a result. Genuinely sounds tortured. From RotJ.

I quite like 'Your apprentice Skywalker will be...' from TPM and Anakin's confession scene in AotC is powerful for the same reason as the RotJ quote. Although seemingly unpopular.

cmon u forgot "use the force luke" when we all saw than for the first time it tottaly showed us how powerful the force was!

I think this is powerful in the reaction of Luke, protecting his sister.
