What is Watto doing in AOTC?

Does he still have a shop? Does he still have slaves? In YPM, Watto says he lost everything. If that was the case, why would he still have Shmi as a slave?

 

He didnt have Shmi, he says he had to sell her, presumably because he had no money. He also doesnt appear to have his shop---"I lost everythings," he says, as you mentioned. I think you answered your own question. He's just a bum street peddler now.

I agree with that assesment. In AOTC Watto doesn't seem to have a shop, only a stand on the side of the rode.

 

DIdn't watto say something like "lets go inside and check my files?" or something like that to anakin when he was asked to find out where shmi was?

Well wouldn't the "lets go inside" be inside his shop? Maybe not the same shop from TPM, but a shop none the less.

 

Yeah, that was in the novel, which I thought was alot better...

 

At least he cant be tricked by jedis, he should had taken those republic credits.

 

He gambled way too much.

 

The New Essential Guide To Characters,

"Ten years after he lost Anakin Skywalker in the Podracing wager, Watto's fortunes had declined and his health had deteriorated. He still owned his junk shop on Mos Espa Way, but he didn't have any slaves at all."

 

So he had bad health and had to do all his work on his own. Almost makes you feel bad for him. Maybe his ability fly helped him lift heavy objects.

 

Bad? Maybe. But I always liked that guy. His accent mostly.

 

I think he still had his shop. He and Anakin go inside to find the records about his mother. I think he simply lost all his cash on the podrace.

He was cleaning the fan switches. 'Yippee' for Watto.

 

Watto was the best character in TPM. I'm glad he got a little cameo.

 

I liked his 'pathetic' appearance after TPM. It was a good touch.

 

Huh? He wouldn't be able to fly at all with heavy objects weighing him down. Sidenote: According to some Star Wars creature special I saw, Watto is able to fly because his stomach is filled with a light gas.

 

Gas prices are too high and he is broke.

 

He lost everything because of his gambling and had to sell Shmi and lost his shop and had to open a market stall on the side of the road to make enough income for survival. He should have gone to Gambling Anonomus or better still, accepted the Republic Credits that Qui-Gon offered him.

 

There's a crude joke there just screaming to be told, if only somebody was low-brow enough to tell it!

 

Watto probably was getting drunk.
