    1. Super Metroid
    2. Metroid Prime 2 (Harder than any other Metroid I've played-- 'cept the first game, but its controls are really clunky)
    3. Metroid Prime
    4. Zero Mission
    5. Metroid Fusion
    6. Metroid

Of the main games, I haven't played II.

Actually, there is no "other" Metroid game besides those nine. And the DS game hasn't come out yet (though the demo has been out for quite some time).

Metroid II: Return of Samus (1991, Game Boy)

    Only one I've played. :p

And I actually own it and have beaten it multiple times in the past. It entertained me on that old hunk of grey plastic for hours. :p So it gets the nod. ;)

The original. It was the first game we had for our NES, so it always brings back memories of my dad playing it for hours on end.

I'm torn between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime :( At the end I went for Metroid Prime as the game brought me into the Metroid franchise.

I like the NES version myself, but then again I don't own any Nintendo product newer than the N64. ;)

Prime was the best, followed by Super Metroid and then Prime 2.

I'm stuck in Metroid Prime. It's a great game, though, but I still prefer the 2D games.

Super Metroid. In the era before the Game Cube, this was the most complex entry in the series. And truly had some of the best visuals around. Great atmosphere. Lots of fun. I'm not dismissing the other games, as they're all great. But this was the true milestone in terms of going from 8-bit to 16-bit to Next Gen.

Metroid (1987, NES). Trying to flip your way up those levels as the place blows up... STILL brutal!

I'm torn between Super and Prime, so I must abstain.

Prime 3 looks like it could blow every other entry out of the water though... We'll have to see how Wii delivers.
