Actually each movie is a big turning point in the saga.

Ep1: The chosen one is found, the Sith are discovered, Palpatine becomes Supreme Chancellor.

Ep2: Ani and Padme marrie, Palpatine is given emergency powers, the Clone War begins.

Ep3: Clone War ends, Ani becomes Vader, the Jedi purge begins, the Republic falls, the Empire rises.

Ep4: Luke takes his first step into a larger world, Kenobi dies, The Death Star is destroyed marking the first major defeat against the Empire.

Ep5: Luke begins Jedi training under Yoda, Luke discovers Vader is his father and resists his first temptation by the Dark Side.

Ep6: Yoda dies, Luke discovers Leia is his sister, Luke becomes a Jedi, Palpatine dies, Vader is destroyed and Ani returns to the Light Side and dies, the Rebellion destroys the Death Star II, the Empire falls.

If you ask me ROTJ is the biggest turning point in the saga, but that isnt surprising since its also the end.
