The Hobbit. No one gives Bilbo enough credit.

I've only read the Fellowship. There's not enough time in a day for me to do everything I would like to do.

What happened to the Lays of Beleriand? Or the Unfinished Tales? The HoME series is far better than the actual LotR trilogy, IMHO, so I guess a vote for The Silmarillion will suffice.

I would have to say the Lord of the Rings series, those sets of books took me to a world that not only interested me, but, also educated me.

Quality wise, I think the Lord of the Rings trilogy is better, but for pure fun and excitement, The Hobbit would be my favorite.

As for The Lord of the Rings, my favorite would be Return of the King. My least favorite is The Fellowship of the Ring. FOTR is a great book, but the first half can be very boring and tedious. The second half is excellent though.

    The Two Towers

Gollum appears more in there than in any other of Tolkien's books. The conversion between Saruman, Theoden, Eomer, and Gandalf was my favourite part. Even those orcs talking about Frodo at the end of the story were interesting. A "large elvish warrior!" Sam kicks Shelob-butt. Down with Ungoliant's decendents!

The Hobbit. Compared to all the other books, as great as the LOTR books are, The Hobbit is just so much more fast paced. There's never a dull moment, and plus, without it, LOTR wouldn't make as much sense. ;)

The Silmarillion had the best depth to it, so I chose it.

I voted for ROTK because it is the most fun for me to read, but I have also read The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, The Book Of Lost Tales, J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth For Dummies. :)

The Towers is easily the best of the LOTR. It is also better than The Hobbit which sucked. I do however detest the movie which was nothing like the book.
