What is your favourite Godfather film?

No "other" option? It's just assumed everyone has a favorite? Bleh.

Decent movies, but overrated to the extreme, IMO. I can think of several other mafia movies that I was way more entertained by. But, uh, twist my arm, and I'll go with part II. At least I didn't fall asleep the first time watching it like I did with the first one.

 

Other would become filled with votes from people who haven't seen any of them. And then when they do see it, they wouldn't be able to vote, having already lodged in Other.





For me, personally, I am yet to see any of them. So yes, I fall into the above category.

 

I can't do it. It's too hard to choose between the first and second films.

Godfather II. To this day, it's one of the best sequels ever made.

 

The Godfather!!! I it (granted, I haven't seen the others, but it's really brilliant).

The Godfather: Part II by a slim margin, the original is really good though as well.

 

Part 1, by the width of Frado's cheesy mustache over Part 2. Part 2 almost becomes too depressing, as you see Michael so far removed from what he was at Connie'S wedding. He's isolated from the world, has had his brother killed, has shut Kay out completely. YOu need the flashback scene at the end just to remind you why you start out the trilogy liking him. Though nothing will ever top the scenes in 2 relating to Fredo -- the looks Michael gives him when they're in Cuba, that instant of recognition when Fredo slips up at the club, "I know it was you. You broke my heart", the look to Neri when he "forgives" Fredo at his Mother's wake, finally Fredo getting on the boat without Anthony -- you knows he's screwed, yet you don't want to believe it until you hear the gunshot. And Michael watches it all.

 

Part II - It's my favorite film, next to ESB. (yay for sequels!)

While the first is a true masterpiece, I prefer the more personal story of the second... along with Robert De Niro's performance.

 

The 1st one is my favourite.

I voted for GFI, as there are more memorable scenes in GFI

Godfather Part II

 

Watched most of Part 3 yesterday (up until they get to the opera in Palermo). SOme very good stuff when the focus is on Michael's personal life, specifically Fredo and Kay. I also thought Andy Garcia did a pretty good job. Joe Mantegna, on the other hand, was aweful, I couldn't stop seeing him in his Simpsons role. And Coppola shold be prohbitied from casting family members -- Talia Shire is god-aweful enough, his daughter may actually be worse.

Lastly, as far as the 'business' part of the stroy, Puzo and Coppola clearly ran out of ideas, the tie-in to the death of JP2 was cool, but the rest was silly.
