And eleborate ... I kinda wanted to start a music discussion thread type-thingy. So WHY do you like it? What specific bands do you like? Are there exceptions (ie: I like most Classical, but mostly soundtracks - some of the stuff played on ABC radio I simply can't stand. I prefer older, heavier music).

Some of the "Alternative" music, such as Powderfinger, Rage Against the Machine, Moby, stuff like that, I really enjoy. However, I've voted for classical, mainly due to my love of the Star Wars soundtracks (I listen to them more then most when I get the chance) and most other movie soundtracks. In fact, there are two soundtracks that I've yet to find which has some great stuff, X-Men and the Matrix. That's the classical Matrix soundtrack (which is out in the US from what I know), not the collection of rock stuff (which I have). Both movies had some great scores, I just can't find the CD's anywhere to listen to them more. Anyone by any chance know where I could find them?

Personally, I do't consider soundtracks to be classical. To me, the term itself implies that it's been regarded as fine music for a very long time. I don't mind soundtracks but my idea of good classical music is more along the lines of Beethoven, Strauss etc.
Anyway, I didn't vote on the poll since there's more than one category that I'd pick.
Most of what I listen to is dance music That's most styles (trance, house, rap etc. Even the mainstream stuff). I don't really differentiate between the various styles since when I got in to club music (as a breakdancer about 20 years ago) it was all the one style. For about the past 15 years I've been playing all those styles as a DJ. As a professional for a while but more recently as a hobbyist.
As I mentioned above, I listen to the odd bit of classical too and I have a fair bit.
I don't mind other styles of music but there isn't anything else that I'd go out of my way to listen to.

    RAP? Pah!

I'm mainly listen to metal. All time favorite band is Fear Factory. Rammenstein, Metallica, Sepultura, White/Rob Zombie plus heaps more. I also tone it down a little when I'm in the car and listen to Rock (all forms) things like Creed, Kid Rock, Nickleback. If I'm at clubs Id prefer dance/techno or a live band. If I had a favorite perth band Id pick WAX without a doubt. Paramount goes off on Saturday's. Otherwise there not really alot I don't like. Can't stand slow songs either.

    Wouldn't rap go under 'other'?

Anyway, I have a decent combination of alternative, Metal, 'normal' rock, classic rock and I dabble in classical.

I have wide and varied tastes in music. I grew up predominately with classical and blues music( I loves the blues brothers).
I'm a fan of rock, classical, metal, some punk, blues, celtic, pipe, fiddle, and singing of course :)
I don't like pop usually but there is the occasional rare song that strikes me as really good

Man, I have way too many things to put in here...... but I suppose they kind of fall into three main catagories..

    1) British 80's/Alternative (Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Adam and the Ants etc)

    2) Industrial Techno/Trance (William Orbit, Chicane, Cesium 137)

    3) Celtic/Tribal (Enya, Enigma, Deep Forest)

    MMMMMMM.... gooood music!! :D

    other bands i like
machine head, ill nino, coal chamber, kittie, black sabbath, static-X, slipknot, mudvayne, sevendust, faith no more, nirvana, sunk loto

    non metal stuff
Eminem, Jewel, Jimi hendrix, movie scores....

    stuff i HATE
pre-fabricated, mass marketed, souless music made by buisness men and preformed by pretty boys and beauty queens......
let's slit the throat of ALL boy bands

    I'd pay to see that
