You know, this reminds me of that t-shirt that GL used to wear, with all the film critics' critiques about what the original Star Wars sorely lacked, and one of them was politics. Now, all you hear is how the PT had too much politics. Go figure.

What ever they do, please, hire lead actors that can act.

    Let's see...

1.) An un-original script, just like Star Trek: Into Darkness
2.) A movie that moves too fast, like Into Darkness
3.) Too many references, like Into Darkness
4.) Trying to tiptoe through the EU
    5.) Sith
    6.) A weak villain
    7.) Vader
    8.) Palpitine
9.) Shoehorning in Chewy, Lando, ect. if they are not needed...
10.) Not learning from the mistakes from the PT
    11.) Child actors
12.) A contrived and boring love plot
    13.) Death Star

    EDIT:

Forgot the biggest one... OVERUSE OF CGI

Here are my top fears in no particular order:

1.) Too much CGI/a super "clean look" like the prequels. I read somewhere that Mark Hamill said he hoped the ST would be more in the style of the OT--less CGI, more practical effects, and the "dirty/used look" of the originals, etc. I wholeheartedly agree. And I hope they listen to the great Luke Skywalker on this!

2.) Han Solo gets killed off in the first movie. *If* they decide to finally give Harrison his wish of Han dying, at least let him make it through most of the trilogy!

3.) Han and Leia won't be together anymore. Yeah, make fun. But I *love* them together, and I want them to be happily married when the ST picks up. I'm a chick. It's my right to be fully invested in their relationship. ;)

    Concurred.

A concern of mine is that the Big Three won't appear at all.

    Biggest fears:

    • It doesn't have GL's quirky unique SW-feel but instead feels generic like "Star Trek," "Star Trek Into Darkness," "The Avengers," and most other non-Nolan directed comic book films (though I certainly wouldn't want it to be dark like Nolan's films but I doubt they'd ever take it in that direction).
    • They bring in a villain/villains that are similar to or are Palpatine, Vader, or a re-constituted Empire
    • It feels like a nostalgia-fest
    • They make Luke the most powerful Jedi, Leia the highest ranking politician, and Han the most important general
    • They don't have an original story to tell so they re-hash old ideas and don't take the story in a new direction. (This goes along with the fact that virtually every PT, OT storyline ended in ROTJ: Anakin fulfilling the prophecy, Palpatine's rise and control of power is ended with his death, Luke's redeems his father, the other is discovered to be Leia, the Empire is soundly defeated, Han is rescued and Jabba killed, etc.)
    • They deviate from the visual style, musical style, basic established plot mechanics of the 1st 6 films
    • It forces the OT actors into roles that they are too old too play.

Thank you! In fact, I'd rather Palpatine himself than an expy of him!

I wouldn't like either, but of the two I agree. I'd prefer Palpatine coming back in some form briefly (perhaps as a Sith spirit or maybe possession) over an expy of Palpatine. Still, I think it'd be far better without either Palpatine or an expy of Palpatine.

This x1000. The Indiana Jones Crystal Alien embarrassment was made more ridiculous by having a 68 year old Harrison Ford act like his 30 year old former self.

I thought it was pretty good. There are things I don't like about it but Harrison Ford was certainly not one of them. He was still amazing! :D

The last few years haven't been kind to Harrison either. My wife had a kiddie crush on Harrison when she was a kid. She still thought he had a little something of the old Harrison in Crystal Skull, though she didn't like the film, but when she's seen very recent pictures of him, she just looks away. She doesn't want to see her old sex symbol looking like an old man.

Also, with the changes in Carrie Fisher's appearance and especially her voice, I hope they don't make them into a happy lovey-dovey couple. In fact, I'm not even sure I think they should be together. With their strong personalities, I wouldn't be of them lasting longterm. Also, with the way Fischer carries herself now, I think she should be a tough old bird, sort of like "M" in the 007 series. I can't think of any other role that would suit her.

I love the idea of a non-connected Leia and Han... And Leia trying to hide her past connections to a known criminal.

No kidding. WE look at him as a hero, but I can imagine how it would play out in real world politics.

"How can you vote for this woman with known ties to a man with such a checkered past." We see this all the time.

It's not strictly because I agree with nearly everything in your list (although I do) that I'm commenting; I just LOVE your Mike Stoklassa avatar. I can even remember that chicken song he and Jay Baumann were eating to in that short episode of Half in the Bag just by looking at the picture. :D

It's a pity that Mike Stoklassa is a bad reviewer. Anywho:

I could see Leia still marrying Han despite his past through the power of true love... or something like that.

My other fear is that Hamill, Fisher and Ford will all give subpar performances and are only in it for the money; like it was with Schwarzenegger in Terminator 3; like it was with Al Pacino in Godfather III; like it was with Anthony Hopkins in the last two Hannibal films; like it was with...well, you get the point.

Let's hope the big three have their hearts set on all this. :(

Hamill and Fisher seem as devoted as ever to Star Wars. Ford is the only one we should be worried about in my opinion.

Ford has never been "into" it, but he is the consummate professional. He will give his all to the role.
