Amazon Fire tablet, kids edition. I got this on black Friday. The price and reviews were encouraging, and retailers were selling out. But I got it and held onto it until my daughter's birthday on New Year's day.

She loves it. Now, admittedly, you could get the lowest Fire tablet for less (which this is), but it comes with a kid friendly case and preloaded with kids oriented software. Yeah, I could probably just have installed this software suite on my own (I assume that's an option on regular Fires?) but having it ready to use right out of the box was a huge convenience.

This is my first experience with an Amazon device and I have to say, I'm impressed. It's already charged, already knows who I am thanks to my Amazon account (it already knew who it belonged to out of the box). Small things, but they definitely pack a "wow" factor.

For such an affordable tablet, I'm very impressed.
