What major character is most likely to die in the final Harry Potter novel?

Poll suggestion by Darth-Lutgerous.

Voldemort is not present, as he is practically a given, and Harry Potter is not present because we have a seperate poll for him.

 

First of all Voldemort's death is not a given, and second of all Pettigrew seems to me to be the most likely candidate. Why? Because he's due his commupance and could be sacrificed without the need for Rowling to engineer a big set piece that would be required to do 'justice' to one of her flagship characters.

EDIT: I also think it's ridiculous that everyone is so hung up on who will die. What's more important is that the story resolves itself in a manner befitting what has come before - and if that doesn't require a devastating loss to the cast of characters then so be it. Death isn't essential. Particularly (IMO) in light of what happened to Dumbledore.

 

Pete is a safe bet of course. I also think a Weasley will die.

 

Pettigrew seems like a safe choice.

 

I'm gonna say Ron...that would be a very shocking death if they killed him off...Dumbledore was bad enough I wouldn't put it past Rowling.

 

I'll say Snape. Although on the face of it, he's no more likely that, say, Pettigrew, I think Snape is damned either way. If he's on DD's side, he has to die because no-one in the wizarding world will believe he was on the good side. If he's on Voldemort's side, he has to die because of what he has done. In a sense he has to die even more than Voldemort.

 

Pettigrew.

Though, I hope he doesn't take out Lupin beforehand. I still have a bad feeling about his silver hand.

 

Snape.

 

I'll go with Snape, in some form of redemption.

 

Other - Harry will die facing Voldemort, and his sacrifice will save his friends. Any other ending is a cop out IMHO.

 

I selected other, mainly because I think two in that list is going to die. Snape, this will be in some act to save Harry and redeem himself and Pettigrew as he had the whole life debt, but I also think he'll somehow most likely off Greyback (Lupin better bloody survive! )

 

Good news then: Rowling has confirmed that this will not occur.

 

Of the following, I'd say Pettigrew is in serious jeopardy.

Snape's a good bet though too - but I think he's got some wiggle room to complete his arc. I'm surprised no one's pegged Lupin yet - he could be in trouble...

Ginny. That way, Rowling will be able to make Harry emo again, like she did in OotP

I PRAY it's not Ron. I'm still having trouble with Sirius...If it were Ron...Let's just say the very Hermione like side of my personality would be near inconsolable!

 

Oh boy yes. It drove me crazy surrounding the release of the last two books. Especially HBP. Everyone was sooooo hung up on who would die, and there was so much in the book that was more interesting than that. Even the power of that final hundred pages is hung up in a lot more than just the death scene. It's almost as if the overall story is sometimes subordinated to the shock value of "who dies."

Wormtail (i.e. Peter Pettigrew). He has a life debt to repay to Harry, and I think he'll pull a Gollum in the end (or something similar). Snape is close second.

Exactly. Though I'm not sure I'd classify him as a major character.

 

I voted HAgrid. After the death in book 6 he's certainly not protected, and I could see him dying to save someone.

I voted for Pettigrew, just because it seems likely he will repay his debt to Harry, after Harry saved his life.
