    TPM & ROTJ

They both have silly characters (Ewoks and Jar-Jar), they both end with battles going on simultaneously in the air, on the ground, light saber duels and end in a primitive species victory celebration.

    ROTS & ESB

They are both the most exciting of their series and explore the dark side of the force. They both end in a major cliffhanger as a bridge to the next chapter.

That leaves AOTC and ANH, I can't say that either one is like each other, but I will say that AOTC is more like the movie Titanic with the cheesey love story.

I see two connections between the various episodes.
    The obvious one is,
    TPM-ANH
    AOTC-TESB
    ROTS-ROTJ

In that pairing, in terms of story, format and character development they are very similar. Menace and Hope both borrow quite a bit of the structure from Hidden Fortress. Both of those episodes begin with two characters who then meet several other characters which leads to the climax. Both episodes invovle finding a boy on the desert world of Tatooine and the destruction of a space station. In both the wise guide is killed by the enemy. Both of these films end with a celebration on a stair case.

Episode II and Episode V are also similar in terms of story and format. They both involve a split of the three major characters. Two characters go on an adventure together and fall in love, the third character goes on a journey by himself and discovers great truths. Finally they all meet at the end and are involved in a trap. Both films end with a man a woman and the two droids looking out into the distance.

Then there is ROTS and ROTJ. Both begin with the daring rescue of a friend that is taken prisoner. Finally both involve seduction to the dark side and battles which shape the future of the galaxy. Similar in format again.

The other connections are in terms of tone,
    the pairings for this are,
    TPM-ROTJ
    AOTC-ANH
    ROTS-TESB

In terms of tone, they are very similar. Revenge and Empire are the darkest chapters of their respective trilogies. Both end with unresolved issues and shreds of hope that are out shined by very dark events.

Menace and Jedi are similar in tone that they can be very light hearted. Both involve primitives fighting highly technologically advanced armies and in the end winning. The Ewoks and Gungans are similar in this regard. Both films have giant land, space and lightsaber battles that are found at the end, daring chase sequences and both end with the burning of a dead man.

Clones and Hope are similar in a lot of ways but it isn't as obvious as any of the other connections. In terms of tone they are similar. The Lars Homestead is featured for a good deal of both movies. Han coming into the death star trench is very similar to Yoda coming into the arena with the clones. Very similar films.

Those are the two sets of definite connections I see.

TPM is most like ROTJ - the plot is 'silly', to the casual viewer, but some deeps stuff is going on beneath the surface.

AOTC is most like TESB - the plot thickens in both, and there's an ambigous end.

ROTS is most like ROTJ, but the coolness is that several things are hinted at/introduced in ROTS that set us up directly for ANH. This is how it should be.

ANH is an odd one, it has the 'silly' thing going on with the Jawas and the Cantina near the beginning - but there's an undercurrent of continuing much of the darkness, and a rekindling of the hopeful light, from ROTS

TESB is most like AOTC, but its biggest link is to ROTS. Needless to say, all three are dark.

ROTJ is the final act and contains elements from pretty much every other film in the Saga - it bears strongest resemblence to ROTS, but you can see 'playful' elements of TPM reemerging, as the light finally dispells the darkness which had covered the galaxy for so long.

ROTS and ROTJ: In ROTS when Aniken is fighting Count Dooku, they are both fighting in front of Palpatine. In ROTJ, Luke and Vader are fighting in front of Palpatine also. The ROTS battle is foreshadowing the ROTJ battle.

I find a similarity between ANH and TPM in that they each can stand as their own movie, and the viewer does not necassarily need to view the other movies in order to understand what's going on, and can actually get a rather firm conclusion at the end. More so for ANH, as it was made to stand as it's own movie due to the fact it might have been the only Star Wars, but I feel TPM does a good job at that too. The beginning of AotC simply would be too confusing if you hadn't seen TPM, and there isn't exactly much of an ending, same with RotS. ESB is also very similar in that sense, as everyone would be wondering "who the heck is that ghost telling the frozen kid to meet his old master?". RotJ gives a firm conclusion, but it doesn't make much sense without ESB, as the entire movie is pretty much based on events from ESB.

I also find some similarity with RotS and ESB, in that they follow a similar story line at times, just with roles reversed. For example, in RotS, the main character now goes and has a new master who will teach him about the force to an extent he hadn't known before. Then, he goes off and all alone has a duel with someone more powefull(actually, physically weaker, but mentally much stronger, and much more intune with the force), and then loses, as well as loosing some limbs, and is then left there to die waiting until someone comes and saves him and rebuilds. Same with ESB, except instead of the main character being evil and facing someone good, the main character is good and facing someone evil.
