I recently rediscovered James Newton Howard's The Village. This may be one of the most gorgeous scores I've ever heard.

My only gripe is the sequencing of the album tracks and how the score ends with such a whimper. Oh well, the music is still brilliant.

Bits and pieces of Pirates I, more specifically, Barbossa's Hungry. Great track and it would have worked perfectly with Pirates II, with all the extreme fighting going on.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

This score isn't as recycled as I'd read, but it's pretty recycled. Sigh... well, I had to go and be a completist.

The reused material is a bit disappointing, but the completeness of that album is what makes me want to listen to it over the original. I also tend to prefer the sound quality, so it's not that big of a loss in my opinion.

Brett Rosenberg's Half Light. This is only avaliable for download from iTunes, but I would recommend it.

You can read a review here.

"Barbossa Is Hungry" is reprised in the DMC score, but that cue is not on the soundtrack.

p.s. I'm still listening to my Soundtracks playlist on iTunes mostly, but I'd say probably ANH more than anything else the last week or so. :)

Back to the Future Part III... very solid score. I hadn't realized how good Silvestri's main theme for these films really was until now. It's amazingly versatile. I just wish I could find Part II anywhere and that Part I was even available at all.

part II is available on amazon, and IIRC, the soundtrack to part I has one or two cues from the score, (if you're willing to put up with some huey lewis and the news!)

    Joe Hisaishi's score to Brother.

Hisaishi is easily one of my favorite composers. There's just something about his style that I find extremely captivating. I'm not sure how familiar you guys are with his non-Miyazaki scores, but you should definitely give them a try.

Basil Poledouris' score to The Blue Lagoon.

To those of you who don't have this one -- find some way to aquire it. Ever since I bought this one I can't keep from playing it. While I will defend modern composers, I have to admit that music of this absolute and pure beauty just isn't written today.

Yea dude I recently bought the score off iTunes for the same reason. Right now I'm listening to the Empire of the Sun score. There's the classic John Williams magic to it, it would've sounded great in the prequels.

I've been listening to Superman Returns for the last month, and I really like what Ottman has done. I'm hoping my Lady in the Water OST will be delivered today and I'll probably be listening to that for a while.

I agree with the two above posters, The Village is a fantastic score. Now that Star Wars is over, for me the big 'event scores' that I am tempted to buy before seeing the film are the work James Newton Howard does for M Night Shyamalan movies.

The last two scores I've bought were Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Legend of Zorro. I haven't bought anything in 2006 at all. Lately I've been listening to my three LOTR scores a lot.
