tom: i remember that album. i was going to see her live but then a friend told me how she would sometimes start crying in the middle of the show and audience members would come up to comfort her and i thought to myself i don't really want to be involved in that mess so i didn't go.
yeah, i've heard lots of similar stories. shows where she refused to let any of the lights be turned on or played the whole show with her back to the audience. apparently most her anxiety was due to massive amounts of drug use and she's all cleaned up now. amazingly her new album is still really good, though maybe not quite as haunting as older works like moon pix. here's cleaned up chan singing 'the greatest' on jools holland with lots of accompaniment. great performance.
