Hi - Let's have a fun topic! Here's the chance for you to fess up that a certain song makes you think of a scene or person from SW!

Come on - admit it, we all do that! At least I hope I'm not the only one! :)

The very first song is a Mariah Carey song. Disclaimer: I really am not a Mariah Carey fan! However, I do like one song of hers (one of her first ones) and it really does remind me of my favorite SW couple - Mara and Luke. So now here is the copy/paste lyrics:

    Vision Of Love

    Treated me kind
    Sweet destiny
    Carried me through desperation
To the one that was waiting for me
    It took so long
    Still I believed
Somehow the one that I needed
    Would find me eventually

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me

    Prayed through the nights
    Felt so alone
    Suffered through alienation
Carried the weight on my own
    Had to be strong
    So I believed
And now I know I've succeeded
In finding the place I conceived

I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love
And it was all that you've given me

    I've realized a dream, umm
    And I visualized
The love that came to be
    Feel so alive
I'm so thankful that I've received
    The answer that heaven
    Has sent down to me

    You treated me kind (yes)
    Sweet destiny
(And you know that you did)
And I'll be eternally grateful (Oooooo)
Holding you so close to me
    (Prayed through the nights)
    Prayed through the nights
    (So faithfully)
    So faithfully
    (Faithfully)
Knowing the one that I needed
    (Knowing)
    Would find me eventually
    (Needed would find me)

I had a vision of love (Ooooooooooooo)
And it was all that you've given to me
I had a vision of love (I had a vision of love)
And it was all that you turned out to be

Okay, here's one that reminds me of Han in New Jedi Order. It's Metallica's "Wherever I may Roam"

    Wherever I May Roam
...and the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
so in her I do confide
    and she keeps me satisfied
    gives me all I need

...and with dust in throat I crave
    only knowledge will I save
to the game you stay a slave
    rover wanderer
    nomad vagabond
    call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind anywhere
    and I'll redefine anywhere
    anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

...and the earth becomes my throne
    I adapt to the unknown
    under wandering stars I've grown
    by myself but not alone
    I ask no one

...and my ties are severed clean
the less I have the more I gain
off the beaten path I reign
    rover wanderer
    nomad vagabond
    call me what you will

but I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
    and I'll never mind anywhere
    anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

but i'll take my time anywhere
    free to speak my mind
and I'll take my find anywhere
    anywhere I may roam
where I lay my head is home

    carved upon my stone
my body lie, but still I roam
    wherever I may roam

Mara's hardly a damsel in distress, but still Madonna's "Rescue Me" reminds me of Vision of the Future.

    Rescue Me

    I'm talking, I'm talking
I believe in the power of love
    I'm singing, I'm singing
I believe that you can rescue me

With you I'm not a little girl, with you I'm not a man
When all the hurt inside of me comes out, you understand
You see that I'm ferocious, you see that I am weak
You see that I am silly, and pretentious and a freak

But I don't feel too strange for you
Don't know exactly what you do
I think when love is pure you try
    To understand the reasons why
    And I prefer this mystery
    It cancels out my misery
And gives me hope that there could be
    A person that loves me

    Chorus:

Rescue me [rescue me, it's hard to believe]
Your love has given me hope
Rescue me [rescue me, it's hard to believe]
I'm drowning, baby throw out your rope

With you I'm not a fascist, can't play you like a toy
And when I need to dominate, you're not my little boy
You see that I am hungry for a life of understanding
And you forgive my angry little heart when she's demanding
You bring me to my knees while I'm scratching out the eyes
Of a world I want to conquer, and deliver, and despise
And right while I am kneeling there
    I suddenly begin to care
And understand that there could be
    A person that loves me

    (chorus)

    Love is understanding
It's hard to believe life can be so demanding
    I'm sending out an S.O.S.
Stop me from drowning baby I'll do the rest

    Rescue me (echo)
Your love has given me hope [your love has given me hope]
    Rescue me (echo)
I'm drowning, baby throw out your rope [baby throw out your rope]
    (repeat)

Ooh ahh, ooh ahh, love is understanding
Ooh ahh, ooh ahh, love is understanding

    Love is understanding
It's hard to believe life can be so demanding
    I'm sending out an S.O.S.
    Rescue me, rescue me

It's not my business to decide
How good you are for me
    How valuable you are
And what the world can see
Only that you try to understand me
And have the courage to love me for me

(Background vocals, continuously for remainder of song:)
[I believe in the power, I believe you can rescue me]

I believe [I believe in the power]
I believe that you can rescue me
    (repeat)

    I'm singing I believe
I believe that you can rescue me
    I'm singing, I'm singing, I'm singing
I believe that you can rescue me

    I'm talking, I'm talking
I believe in the power of love
    (repeat)

    I'm singing, I'm singing, I believe
I believe that you can rescue me

    Hey hey, hey hey
    R.E.S.C.U.E. me
    Only you can rescue me
    Hey hey, hey...
[I believe you can rescue me]
    [I believe in the power]
[I believe you can rescue me]

Oh, my. You don't even want to *know* how many songs I equate with Star Wars characters. I love Star Wars, and I love music, and the two just work so well together.

Here are songs I've written SW song-fics to, so I guess I could say they remind me of characters. :)

Frozen by Madonna (my fanfic is called If I Could Melt Your Heart- it's a line in the song)
    Han/Leia

    If You're Gone
    Ani/Ami right before Ani turns

    The Lover After Me
Ani/Ami - not a real lover, Ani's just "seduced" by the DS

    I Knew I Loved You
    Ani/Ami

    You'll Be In My Heart
    Ami/Luke/Leia

    Fire Inside The Man
    Ani/Ami

My Heart Will Go On (this I actually filked)
    Leia after Alderaan

I haven't yet written a story to it yet (though I plan to), but I think Bruce Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia is perfect for Anakin. I'll have to change some of the words, but it fits him.

    I was bruised and battered
    I couldn't tell what I felt
    I was unrecognizable to myself
I saw my reflection in a window
I didn't know my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away
    On the streets of Coruscant

    I walked the avenue
'Til my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Black and whispering as the rain
    On the streets of Coruscant

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles just to slip this skin
The nigth has fallen , I'm lyin awake i can
    Feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your
    Faithless kiss or will we
leave each other alone like this
    On the streets of Coruscant

Ya know, Mara, I hate to admit it, but I have to agree with JJ on this one. IF it's the woman singing, then it doesn't like Mara to me. But Callista, definitely. Now, if it was Luke singing it, then OF COURSE it wouldn't be talking about Callista.

Ack!!! Both of you are bad Jedi for saying that and giving me indigestion! Shame on you!

I admit, I do have trouble picturing Mara singing a love song... but I don't think she's unfeeling either. I think she had some feelings for Luke (almost broached the subject in KJA's Darksaber), but she fought the idea of caring for someone. Plus, she had some issues with Luke's use of power. But anyhow, maybe she'd sing it if she got a little plastered! :)

But NOOOOO - not Callista! Ick!

I'm too sexy for Lando? LOL! I've put that song with him before. That and "Sexual Healing." Heheh... I'll get off my Lando fixation now... ;)

Anyway.... for some Luke/Mara songs, here are two recorded by Rod Stewart that I love. You can find them on his 1996 album If We Fall In Love Tonight.
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002NC2/qid=982785632/sr=2-2/ref=sc_m_2/107-1801897-2734120

    SOMETIMES WHEN WE TOUCH
    (Barry Mann, Dan Hill)

You ask me if I love you
and I choke on my reply
    I'd rather hurt you honestly
than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
in what you say or do
    I'm only just beginning
    to see the real you

    And sometimes when we touch
    the honesty's too much
and I have to close my eyes and hide
I want to hold you till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides

    Romance and all it's strategy
leaves me battling with my pride
    But through all the insecurity
    some tenderness survives
    I'm just another writer
    still trapped within my truth
    A hesitant prize fighter
    still trapped within my youth

    And sometimes when we touch
    the honesty's too much
and I have to close my eyes and hide
I want to hold you till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides

At times I'd like to break you
and drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
    and hold you endlessly
    At times I understand you
and I know how hard you try
I watched while love commands you
and I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're drifters
    still searching for a friend
    a brother or a sister
but then the passion flares again

    And sometimes when we touch
    the honesty's too much
and I have to close my eyes and hide
I want to hold ya till I die
till we both break down and cry
I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides
    Subsides

    FOR THE FIRST TIME
(Jud Friedman, Allen Rich, James Newton-Howard)

    Are those your eyes
    Is that your smile
I've been looking at you forever
yet I never saw you before
Are these your hands holding mine
Now I wonder how I could have been so blind
And for the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seeing who you are
    I can't believe how much I see
when you're looking back at me
now I understand what love is, love is
    for the first time

    Can this be real
    Can this be true
Am I the person I was this morning
and are you the same you
    It's all so strange
    How can it be
All along this love was right in front of me
And for the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seeing who you are
    I can't believe how much I see
when you're looking back at me
now I understand what love is, love is
    for the first time

Such a long time ago I had given up
on finding this emotion ever again
But you're here with me now
    Yes I found you somehow
and I've never been so sure
And for the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seeing who you are
Can't believe how much I see
when you're looking back at me
Now I understand what love is, love is
    for the first time
    For the first time

I've been listening to one of my favorite groups, Crash Test Dummies, lately. I think this song could be from the point of view of Anakin singing to Amidala, although things didn't work out that well in the end, as we all know.

    The Ghosts That Haunt Me
    Written by Brad Roberts

    There's a skeleton in everybody's closet
I can think of one or two in my own room
But I would like to introduce them both to you
You'd shake their bony hands and so dispell the gloom

    'Cause you're so kind
I know you would not mind
You'd send away the ghosts that haunt me now
    And the things I fear
    Just wouldn't seem so near
And when I stroll out late at night
There would be nothing rattling at my heels

There are nights when all my aching bones won't let me sleep
And demons come to plague me as I lie in bed
But I know if you were sleeping there beside me then
That you could fend them off and they would let me rest

    There are nights
When the wind comes howling through my old place
    I have dreams
And I wake up with the sweat pouring down my face
And I wait till the morning comes

There will come a time I fear when all my days are done
And they will come collect my corpse and bury me
And then I hope you'll come over to the Other Side
To join me in our new life, keep me company

    (c) 1991 BMG Music Canada Inc.

Although I hate revisions of classic works as much as the next guy, I think it would be really cool if at the end of Return of the Jedi, Anakin would be reunited with Amidala in the afterlife, all his past sins forgiven.

Given the first letter of Lando's last name, Lando reminds me of this song!

    "C" Is For Cookie
    by The Cookie Monster

[Now what starts with the letter C?
    Cookie starts with C
    Let's think of other things
    That starts with C
Oh, who cares about the other things?]

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C

    [Hey you know what?
A round cookie with one bite out of it
    Looks like a C
A round donut with one bite out of it
    Also looks like a C
But it is not as good as a cookie
Oh and the moon sometimes looks like a C
But you can't eat that, so ... ]

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me, yeah!
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C, yeah!
Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C, oh boy!
Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C!

    (Cookie Monster eats the cookie)

I've seen both Crash Test Dummies and Barenaked Ladies in concert. I like CTD's first three albums, but I really think their latest one is abysmal. I do expect their next album to be up to their previous standards, though. Barenaked Ladies are a good band, although their later albums lack the sense of whimsy that was on their original album. Luckily, I saw them in concert when they only had the one album, Gordon, out. To make it a Canadian trilogy, I also like The Tragically Hip, although I haven't heard everything they've done.

Back to the topic, at the video room of Club Dagobah at Capricon, someone showed a Star Wars music video he had done to "Allies" by Heart. It was nicely done. I don't have the lyrics to the song on hand.

This "Weird Al" Yankovic song could easily be about Luuke Skywalker, Luke's evil clone:

    I Think I'm A Clone Now
(parody of "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tiffany)

    Isn't it strange?
Feels like I'm lookin' in the mirror.
    What would people say,
If only they knew that I was
    Part of some geneticist's plan,
Born to be a carbon copy man.
There in a petri dish, late one night,
They took a donor's body cell and fertilized a human egg, and so I say

    I think I'm a clone now. (a clone now)
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around.
    I think I'm a clone now, (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

    Look at the way
We go out walkin' close together.
    I guess you could say
    I'm really beside myself.
I still remember how it began,
They produced a carbon copy man.
Born in a science lab, late one night.
Without a mother or a father, just a test tube and a womb with a view.

    I think I'm a clone now. (a clone now)
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around.
    I think I'm a clone now, (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

    I think I'm a clone now, (a clone now)
And I can stay at home while I'm out of town.
    I think I'm a clone now, (a clone now)
'Cause every pair of genes is a hand-me-down.

    Signing autographs for my fans,
Come and meet the carbon copy man.
Livin' in stereo, it's all right.
Well, I can be my own best friend, and I can send myself for pizza, so I say

    I think I'm a clone now.
Another one of me's always hangin' around.
    I think I'm a clone now,

    I think I'm a clone now. (a clone now)

    I think I'm a clone now. (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.
    I think I'm a clone now. (a clone now)
