Thought it was more important to acknowledge George Lucas's birthday than Mother's Day? As if we don't already have enough hagiography of this man? Is there anything else we can subvert unnecessarily to his will?
Pretty sure it's only Mother's Day in the US. The UK version of it (Mothering Sunday) falls in March.
Yeah, it's American, and George Lucas' birthday is the same all over the globe, and not on Mother's Day every year.
It was Mother's Day in New Zealand and Australia on 14 May. I'm sure Ender was delighted that us Antipodean colonies followed the US rather than the UK... so, err, GEORGE LUCAS.
It's also Mother's Day in Anguilla, Aruba, Austria, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Curaasao, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Honduras, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Malta, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Suriname, Switzerland, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe
I dunno, my mom who adores George Lucas would be thrilled to know his birthday falls on her day this year. And every day is mother's day to me...
Oh! I dare not venture a guess, Mr. Wocky, it is indeed very unbecoming of someone, but I beg you do not encourage any more vulgarities on the behalf of Mr. Lucas.
I think you would hate the British version of the holiday, Ender Sai, as it was introduced by the church and celebrates Mary. The American version, which is the one that has spread to most of the world, stems from a 19th century suffragette who attempted to use it to promote pacifism, which I think is much more up your alley.
Mmm nah...I'm sure for Ender if he had to choose between taking arrogant Americans or arrogant Christians down a few pegs and they were mutually exclusive, he'd pick the former.
At least that is still glorifying a whole nation, rather than being so small and petulant that think the whole world should bow before a single human being who made a mish-mash of science fiction B-movies into a single story.
But if it wasn't for George Lucas, I would not have made your acquaintance. So yeah, **** George Lucas.
