I just thought I'd share with the rest of the Oceania forums what the South Australians got up to last weekend. A couple of months ago, we decided to take part in the Cancer Council's [link=http://www.cancersa.org.au/i-cms?page=1.5.419.421.347]Relay for Life[/link] event. The relay is team event aiming to raise money for cancer research, support services and education. This relay took place at Victor Harbor, about 80km south of Adelaide on the weekend of 1-2 April. The aim is to carry a baton continously around a track for 20 hours to honour those taken by cancer and for those still fighting this disease.

So after a few weeks of fundraising activities, we all traveled down to Victor for the weekend, camped out on the local footy oval and did the relay (mostly) in costume. Overall the 13 teams that attended the event raised over $27,000 and for our part, SAFF raised over $3000.

For me, this epitomised the best of Star Wars fandom and the whole idea of the Fan Force, that is, going beyond the forum chats and going out into the real world :) We were all bought together by our common love of Uncle George's creations, spent a weekend away with good friends and helped a worthy cause at the same time. How good is that?

There are relays done all around the world. So if you ever get the opportunity to do one of these events I'd highly recommended it.

    Our team.

    On the track.

The Master Replica sabers were out in force, pardon the pun ;)

    Good work guys! :D

I did the Relay last year and this year (well, I watched from the sidelines beause I was on crutches) and I have managed to get my lightsabre as one of the batons for both years so far. It's amazing how many people use them! :p

But yeah, excellent work guys, you all rock...I mean, RAWK. =D=
