There were a couple of not-absolutely-awful books:

• Crosscurrent - That was inbetween LOTF and FOTJ. It had a sequel, Riptide.
• X-Wing: Mercy Kill - One of the very, very few books that was written as if NJO happened, it was also Aaron Allston's last before he died.

In contrast, the Legacy comics, set 100 years after NJO's TUF, are very much liked, probably more so now.

To be honest, the way it's going, part of me says it will in the sense of the bad guy winning completely.

 

What was so good about the Legacy comics

 

They followed on logically from the end of TUF when just about every other EU book was flipping TUF the bird.

Not that much, Cade was a flawed character all right and arguably, an accurate take on the nature of addiction - that a person doesn't get better in a straight line of continuous improvement. That doesn't make for an easy reading experience and after a certain point, sympathy for Cade did reduce.

Legacy's better characters were the supporting cast.

I already asked this question, but what series was the worse, NJO, LOTF, or FOTJ, and can you find any positives

 

i looove Cade. More now than I did when legacy was running, too; i think it's easier to forgive his flaws and appreciate his character looking back as an adult-adult than it maybe was when I was the same age he was.

 

I think the Galaxy of Fear series was the worst.

The positives was it had a lot of cameos.

I did a reread of Legacy a few years back and it worked far better, even with Cade's backsliding - take away the whole monthly piece dynamic and blitz read the lot, it removes a lot of the frustration that was reading it monthly.

I did find Cade's final resolution more effective too. It always worked for me, that he got himself together, but reading as a block showed up how much better it was that Cade didn't simply 'get better'.
