I remember the feeling of excitement on who Darth Krayt was, and the satisfaction at seeing that revealed and the how's and why's it happened. There was a rich universe to draw from and Darth Krayt could have been a lot of people.

Contrast this with TFA, and the list of people Snoke could be was whittled to one hand due to the ejection of the EU. The producers said that any connections with obscure novels etc would reduce viewer investment. And yet Sauron worked quite well in the LOTR films despite being the apprentice of someone who only appeared in the Silmarillion, and Zander Rice in Logan worked fine despite being an obscure X-Men character almost no one ever heard of.

How about doing a bit more than just asking questions?

Why does a new character have to be an existing character to begin with? It makes the galaxy feel really small.

Well, I actually find the post-NJO EU interesting, if flawed. When I was 12, my mom bought a FOTJ novel called Vortex. I thought it was good. It was written by Denning

I agree if the new character were interesting in his own right, he wouldn't need the attachment of a previous character.

It's like in the tv show Lost--the last episodes had the smoke monster take the form of Locke, to play off audience and other characters' investment in the Locke character. They only did this because the smoke monster as a character was relatively dull and didn't have the connection, history, or any motive to hate Jack and the others so much.

Lots of people hate the Lost finale, well according to TV Tropes and lists of worst series finales

JediBen - yeah. I think also it helps to realize his over-narrative is more about dealing with trauma than just addiction; his drug habit is just one of the ways he copes. There's this scene in the first arc, I think it's issue five, where he really clicked for me last time I read it: when the Sith attack them on Vendaxa and he's just standing there, completely out of it, bluescreened basically, and Duursema zooms in on his face in this panel and you realize how young he is...

You can find pretty much everything Star Wars related on wookiepedia. It's a great resource.

Yeah, addiction is symptom, it's not the cause, which is the trauma of Ossus, which was compounded by Rav.

Talking of whom, I so wanted to see that bastard get his. Alas, not to be.

Imagine the irony if Snoke's backstory is told in a novel or a comic. Also, isn't most of Holdo's history in the Leia novel?

The Broken arc is one of my top 3 beginning arcs of a series. KOTOR: Commencement and Dark Empire 1 are the others.

I wish they would make a KOTOR TV show. I don't play the games, but I love the story and lore.

If you can get through Crosscurrent, Riptide is a very engaging novel!

I hated Riptide tbh. It was a real disappointment, because Crosscurrent is one of my favourite Star Wars books.

I never had any issue with Krayt's identity. In fact l very much liked A'Sharad Hett's story and felt both him and his motivations very interesting.

I enjoyed both. A bonus of Riptide was Darth Wyrrlokk turning up.
